EVENT DESCRIPTION

Homo Sapiens and non-human primates walk in dissimilar ways in society. Humans also have to live up to certain social norms in how they behave, intending to socialize effectively in an artificial social environment. Sapiens will unlikely be bungling upon changes in environmental data, but utilize their inbuilt bodily functions to dawdle along the space and feel the stretch of their limbs.
From deconstructing walking postures, to giving way to instinctive reflexes, we walk into the straight wild nature of primates.

Primates is an exhibition descended from an experiment on the relationship between space and only a piece of 3-dimensional work, which explores diverse definitions, and fumbles around its boundaries and scalability. It is an open discussion of the artist and Wure Area’s train of thought.

The selected artist for the program, Michelle Tam Man Ching, concerns the object’s circumstance between nature and society. She looks for the position as a human being within both conditions through intuition and repeating linkage, and tries to explore the perspective from sensation to rationality.

In the process of the experimental project, Michelle recycled loads of plastic tags which were the leftovers under mass production. She did not work in accordance with the design of the plastic tags, but the unknown pleasure to promote the interventions of pulling, linking, pairing, combining, interweaving and forming a net, so that an irreversible open relationship between the materials was formed. The assembled glue line is a very sensitive community of destiny. When triggered, the potential energy of swing will rapidly spread to the whole network, rising and falling together. She implanted plankton into the reticular system. It is said that when they sense instability and imminent danger, they use light shock, which is weak but important energy. She perceived the viewer as one of the media in the system. The dim space weakens the sense of existence of the buckles. The silk threads they make up control the viewer’s pace; The reaction of the algal organism drives the focus of the eye. She thought that the step by step connection and the cautious reaction is a response between the artificial system and nature, leading to the reflection of the audience. As the experimental program continues to evolve, the reactor will run with it, eventually settling down.

Urged by the griefs in the contemporary world, she explores our attachment recalled amidst our ambivalence towards the world through the lens of humans' primitive instincts. Using everyday objects that are between natural and artificial, Tam establishes her conversations with humanity and the cosmos, concurrently searches for possibilities to negotiate in turmoils.
