We look forward to joining hands with collectors to achieve new heights in the auctions.”

The Modern and Contemporary Art Department will continue to explore the most popular and potential works in the current market for all collectors. Led by Wu Guanzhong’s A Mountain Village of the Dong People, the artist breaks away from mere realistic reproduction and naturally links personal sentiments with descriptive landscapes, to achieve the unique aesthetic realm of “containing sentiments in the form”. To the right, the riverbank details are depicted on a full-page scale, which is rarely seen throughout his creative career, marking its importance and preciousness. This masterpiece was also featured and published in the Wu Guanzhong’s Complete Works, Vol.3.

Another highlight lot is Zao Wou-Ki’s representative work 20.6.64 created during the Hurricane Period. This was the period where Zao Wou-Ki entered his creative peak, thus allowing him to switch between Eastern and Western elements with ease. During his art career, 1964 was the prime year of the Hurricane Period. His most expensive auction records and works acquired by major international museums are all from 1964. The sale will also present a seminal work L’inconnu created in 1992 by Chu Teh-Chun. Through L’inconnu, the artist further explores the tangible nature and expresses the shifting spatial dimensions through subtle changes in tone. Under the leadership of the two Chinese masters of abstraction, this season will combine other abstract works from the East to the West. From modern masters to cutting-edge works in the contemporary art sector, Poly Auction Hong Kong will bring collectors an exciting autumn auctions.

This year in March, Chiharu Shiota’s solo exhibition “The Soul Trembles” at the Shanghai Long Museum was concluded and successfully introduced this Berlin-based artist to a wider range of audiences and collectors. This season, a special feature of Shiota’s works will be offered, allowing collectors to take a deep dive into the realm of this Asian female artist, who has led the contemporary art scene in recent years. The largest canvas work by Chiharu Shiota will appear on the auction market for the first time, and the artist’s famous installation work that has appeared on the secondary market will also be offered.

The Fine Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy Department has collected a collection of well-framed fan art pieces. The works span from the three dynasties of Ming, Qing, and the Republic of China for hundreds of years. Most of the works are from Qing Dynasty and were written by the literati and officials of these three dynasties. Many of them are originated from the top three scholars (Jinshi Sanjia) in the Ming and Qing dynasties and the Republic of China period’s “Guangdong Chinese Painting Research Association” that were written to the Collector Xiao Zhengxuan. Often regarded as a gift or for private collection, the painters of all dynasties in Chinese history tended to paint on fans to express their feelings. A fan with characters and paintings is called “Chengshan”, and it is called “Shanmian” if both the guard stick and inner stick of the fan were removed for easy storage and framing into an album. Fan painting can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty and can be divided into two types: round fan painting “Tuanshanhua” and folding fan painting “Zheshanhua”. Especially in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the development of folding fan’s craftsmanship in Jiangnan area also promoted the prosperity of folding fan painting.

In addition, the sale will offer an extraordinary array of Classical Chinese Paintings, including the antique landscape album of Lu Zhi, an important painter in the Ming Dynasty, the Cranes and Peach Tree by Shen Quan, a court painter in the Qing Dynasty, and many more; while the Contemporary Chinese Ink category will be led by Li Jin’s Revolution Is Not A Dinner Part and Childhood Memory by Wu Guanzhong from the precious collections of Mr Wang Liangfu.
