Polly Ho: Bird Songs

19 January - 19 March

Free

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The exhibition features a series of pyrography works inspired by the birds of both Australia and Hong Kong. It explores themes of personal identity and belonging within the context of the global migration movement. Through the concept of “impossible encounters” shaped by the restricted habitats of these birds, the exhibition also seeks to raise awareness about bird conservation and foster a deeper understanding of these fascinating creatures.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Polly Ho’s artistic practice is characterized by monochrome linework and two-dimensional compositions. After leaving her career as a secondary school teacher, she has dedicated herself entirely to the craft of pyrography. For Polly, art serves as both a personal chronicle and an emotional outlet. This exhibition draws upon her experience of relocating to Australia, grappling with questions of identity and belonging. Nature has always been a central theme in her work, and she uses the medium of wood and heat to transform the encounter between native Australian birds and common Hong Kong birds into an imaginative reality. Through the Bird Songs series, Polly invites audiences to engage with the texture and warmth of nature.
