EVENT DESCRIPTION

Blindspot Gallery is pleased to present Play and Loop IV, the fourth iteration of our summer video screening programme. Play and Loop IV will be divided into three scenes, each scene lasting for two weeks. The gallery space will be divided into four screening rooms with single-channel artist film projections playing in loop, along with three video works that are on view throughout the exhibition.

SCENE 1: 19 – 30.7 2022
The Way We Move: Animation and Hybrid Forms
Featured artists: Chihoi, Hsu Che-Yu, Liu Yi, and Chris Zhongtian Yuan
Scene 1 will feature animation works by four artists from the Greater China region, conceived in an expanded field of animation that taps into its contemporary hybridity with other media and genres.

SCENE 2: 2 – 13.8 2022
Hope and Resistance
Featured artist: Agil Abdullayev, Lam Tung Pang, Angela Su, Chulayarnnon Siriphol,
TT Takemoto, and Yuan Goang-Ming
Scene 2 will showcase a selection from “After Hope: Videos of Resistance”, a project at Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, that explores the expressions and legacies of hope in contemporary art, with contributing artists from America and different parts of Asia.

SCENE 3: 16-27.8 2022
Spotlight: Christian Jankowski and Wang Tuo
Scene 3 will give a deeper dive into the practices of Christian Jankowski and Wang Tuo. On one side, we will feature a selection of video works from Christian Jankowski’s expansive conceptual practice spanning more than three decades. On the other side, we will feature selection from Wang Tuo’s Northeast Tetralogy, a multi-part epic that retells the history of the Northeast China.

Also on view: 19.7 – 27.8 2022
Luke Casey, Yuk King Tan, Eason Tsang Ka Wai
Also on view throughout the 6-week exhibition are video installations by three Hong Kong artists. Their works show a sense of alienation, absurdity, and abeyance experienced in the city.
