EVENT DESCRIPTION
Musicus Society announces a triumphant start to the second decade of Musicus Fest. The annual flagship event is back to full scale in 2023, featuring a variety of concerts between 11 November and 3 December. Cementing the Festival’s unique position as a meeting point for overseas artists to visit and collaborate with young local talents, we are pleased to announce the full program featuring prolific artists from Austria, Australia, Canada, Italy, Germany, Korea and Hong Kong.
For the 11th annual Musicus Fest, the Society is honoured to welcome the world-famous Camerata Salzburg to perform in not one but two concerts. On 25 November, Trey Lee will appear as solo cellist with the Camerata to conclude their multi-city Greater China tour playing Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and Beethoven. And on 26 November, Camerata Salzburg draws a symbolic close to the festival in their renditions of Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony No. 41 and the hidden gem that is the Concertone for Two Violins and Orchestra.
One of the Society’s major initiatives, Musicus Soloists Hong Kong (MSHK), has received much acclaim both in Hong Kong and abroad since debuting. On 21 November, they are joined by French-Canadian pianist Louis Lortie, known for his elegant musicanship, in a Nordic program. And in the Next Generation Virtuosi concert on 24 November, we introduce violinist Aaron Chan, winner of the 2023 Young Artist Audition. The young rising performer has selected his favourite pieces to demonstrate his talent.
Sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club Musicus Heritage Stories Concerts return with cross-art form collaboration and appreciation. The Grade 2 historic building of the Former North Kowloon Magistracy will become the venue for free concerts over the weekend of 1–3 December, featuring guest violinist Martin Funda from the renowned Armida Quartet of Germany and other superb performers. The program will also incorporate guided tours and introduce the cheongsam, an iconic and charming Chinese fashion style dating back to the 1920s, via collaboration with the Hong Kong Cheongsam Association. More details coming soon.
