Mr.Likey: In A Good Place

13A New Street Art Gallery is proud to present “In A Good Place” by Mr.Likey from 7th July to 23rd July, featuring 25 artworks. Exhibition by the contemporary artist Mr. Likey from New York, Known for his unique “painting within a painting” style, Mr. Likey expresses his distinct worldview from different backgrounds, inviting viewers to experience a deeper meaning beyond the surface beauty and resonating with audiences of various perspectives.

Following his exhibition in Beijing’s 798 and the second stop in Chicago earlier this year, Mr. Likey brings his Donut Bears to Hong Kong in what can be considered the third installment of the Donut Bears series. For Mr. Likey, the Donut Bears series has been a journey of growth, starting from the creation of Donut Bears, then expanding to a family, and now he aims to create an atmosphere, an environment, and a worldview in this exhibition.

The theme of this exhibition In A Good Place not only refers to being in a good physical environment but also primarily expresses the idea of being in a good mental and emotional state. Throughout the exhibition, rare sightings of rainbows and birds flying perfectly in the sky are intentionally placed within the same frame, capturing fleeting moments of beauty and perfection in an attempt to create the most perfect and happiest ambiance. This is similar to how an artist or craftsman continuously honed their skills to achieve perfection, and this is the message that Mr. Likey hopes to convey through this exhibition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Growing up in the United States, Mr. Likey received his Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of the Arts and his work was awarded the 「Gold Key Art Award」. Influenced by cartoons and street culture in the US, Mr. Likey is famous for his exceptional ability to recreate new art pieces with pop cultural symbols. Mr. Likey has participated in numerous exhibitions in New York, Melbourne, and Shanghai. He also did his solo exhibition in Chicago, Taipei, Beijing Philippines and Hong Kong. More than that, he was invited to be the artist featured in Shanghai’s expo.
