Moomin 80th Anniversary Exhibition

Moomin, the beloved Finnish character created by pioneering artist Tove Jansson, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, a major exhibition titled The Beginning of The Moomins will open in Hong Kong to showcase the enduring magic of the Moomins and the life of the visionary creator behind the stories. Organized by Trendic International Ltd., in collaboration with Rights & Brands Asia Ltd., the exhibition will be held from November 14, 2025, to January 4, 2026, on the 4th floor of Kai Tak Retail Galleria Phase 2, Kai Tak Sports Park.

Jansson, one of the Nordic’s most celebrated cultural figures, wrote the first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945. Since then, the fantastical creatures who live in Moominvalley and Jansson’s timeless themes of open-hearted adventure, nature, friendship, and courage have resonated across cultures and ages. Jansson went on to publish eight more books in the series, in addition to four picture books, and today, Moomin books are published in more than 60 different languages.

This landmark exhibition in Hong Kong brings to life Moomin’s inaugural tale, The Moomins and the Great Flood, offering guests a rare opportunity in Asia to step into Jansson’s creative universe through immersive installations, archival materials, and multilingual editions of her books, for all ages to enjoy. The expansive exhibition will comprise ten themed zones, together with a limited-time pop-up store, highlighting seven iconic scenes from the original story. Visitors will journey from the mysterious Forest to a dreamy land made of candy, retracing Moomintroll’s adventure to find his father and a new home. The exhibition culminates on a historical corridor that showcases Moomin’s evolution from the 1940s to today, featuring reproduced manuscripts, vintage dolls, rare promotional memorabilia, and a wall of original novels for browsing.

Highlights of the exhibition include the global premiere of a specially commissioned digital projection by Finnish creative team NULL, while a part of the iconic blue Moominhouse will be faithfully recreated for visitors to explore.
