EVENT DESCRIPTION

ARTOX GROUP, in collaboration with Soak the Project, is thrilled to announce the unveiling of Meguru Yamaguchi’s POP UP exhibition, presented by GOLD WOOD ARTWORKS, from now to 28, 2024, at Sun Fung Mansion in Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong.

Born in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, USA, Meguru Yamaguchi is the creative force behind GOLD WOOD ARTWORKS studio. With a portfolio boasting collaborations with international powerhouses such as Issey Miyake, Audi, NIKE, and STUSSY, Yamaguchi’s influence spans continents. Brands like UNIQLO, Billionaire Boys Club founded by Pharrell Williams, ALIFE, OAKLEY, and BAKE CHEESE TART have eagerly sought partnerships with him.

Yamaguchi’s upbringing, with both parents working as fashion designers, fueled his passion for art from an early age. His father formed Ozone Rocks and Hysteric Glamour. His exposure to American Pop Art and various artistic forms shaped his unique style. This POP UP will also showcase selected artworks from Yamaguchi’s parents, offering a glimpse into his remarkable artistic lineage.

Renowned internationally for his eclectic style, Yamaguchi’s art is a fusion of Japanese aesthetics, European impressionism, and American street graffiti culture. His creations bridge traditional and contemporary, Eastern and Western artistic philosophies, resulting in visually stunning and dynamically expressive works.

For Yamaguchi, creation is an ongoing exploration of boundless possibilities. Breaking free from the confines of traditional canvases and brushstrokes, his art splatters vivid colors onto mediums such as wood panels, aluminum, and 3D prints. Combining abstract expressionism with urban and trendy elements, Yamaguchi’s work exudes a captivating tension and fluid beauty.

ARTOX GROUP aims to showcase Yamaguchi’s keen artistic vision and experimental creative language to Hong Kong audiences through this collaboration with GOLD WOOD. This exhibition serves as a bridge connecting Yamaguchi with art enthusiasts in Hong Kong, offering a glimpse into his elegant yet resilient artistic temperament.

The cosmopolitan blend of Eastern and Western cultures, classical and modern art in Hong Kong resonates deeply with Yamaguchi’s creative philosophy. Let us anticipate the artistic storm about to unfold in Central, injecting the vibrancy and energy of international art into Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.
