de Sarthe is pleased to host Make It Work HK Charity Art Auction, featuring 51 artworks generously donated by Hong Kong galleries and their artists, as well as art students from local schools. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for Make It Work HK and empower the working poor in Hong Kong.

Previewing at de Sarthe from 15 to 17 December 2021, all artworks are available for bidding online at https://hk.givergy.com/FrenchChamber/ from 1 pm HKT on 1 December 2021 until 7 pm HKT on 17 December 2021, while selected artworks given by galleries and artists will also be offered at the live auction by Christie’s during the cocktail reception on 17 December 2021.

According to the latest Hong Kong Poverty Situation Report by Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong recorded 553,500 poor people in 2020 after government help, deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the rising unemployment. Nearly 180,000 remain underprivileged despite being employed.

With the support from Consulat General de France, Christie’s, Hong Kong Art Gallery Association, ArtAsiaPacific, French Chamber, French Chamber Foundation, Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts, and French International School, all proceeds of the exclusive art event will support the operation of Make It Work HK’s three centres to provide working poor direct accesses to social community and training and employment services.

Donating artists include Vivian Ho (A2Z Art Gallery), Damon Tong Wai Kit (Art Projects Gallery), Vanessa Franklin (Boogie Woogie Photography), Cheung Tsz Hin (Contemporary by Angela Li), Mak2 (de Sarthe), Shen Wei (Flower Gallery), Sin Yuen (Galerie Koo), Yolanda Yeung (Galerie Ora-Ora), Peter Nelson (Hanart TZ Gallery), 009, b.wing and Kila Cheung (JPS Art Gallery), Lau Chin Hung (Kwai Fung Hin), Ettore Sottsass (Novalis), Erin Morrison (Rossi & Rossi), and Joanne Chan (Soluna Fine Art).

The aiding art event includes mentorship for art students by bringing them an opportunity to show their works in a gallery for the first time and further exposure to the art world. Also, three art students of best artworks voted by an art professionals panel will be honoured at Consulat General de France on 15 December and will receive prizes and a substantial amount of artist’s supplies.
