M+ Hackathon: Museum as a Tool

9 July 2022 - 23 July 2022

EVENT DESCRIPTION

If M+ were a computer, what type of data would it process? What would it output?

M+ Hackathon: Museum as a Tool invites students, designers, artists, and technologists to this two-week event of online and offline lectures, workshops, and group activities facilitated by Jackson Lam and Hochi Lau. Rethink the role of a museum and its data as tools to unfold new insights.

Contemporary museums provide tools for reflecting on our time and space, allowing us to draw connections within historical and comprehensive narratives. As organisations advocate open access availability, data has become foundational to knowledge building and tool development. Analysing and interpreting data leads to new perspectives of our environment.

In this hackathon, participants will build prototypes that extract, examine, and express data using the M+ Collections open data set and external open access data repositories. The winning teams will be awarded cash prizes.

M+ Hackathon: Museum as a Tool will be conducted in English. Register for free to join this event as an individual or a team.
