Musica Viva presents Lucia di Lammermoor at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall from December 12 until December 14.
Lucia di Lammermoor is a romantic opera in three acts by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, based on the libretto written by Salvadore Cammarano.
The action takes place in Scotland towards the end of the 17th century. Lord Enrico of Lammermoor Castle is perpetuating a family feud with the Ravenswood clan. Edgardo the young lord of Ravenswood, whose father was killed and whose estate usurped by Enrico’s father, is now a fugitive. Lucia, Enrico’s sister, is caught between a passionate love and the family rivalry. Trapped in betrayal and political manipulation, Lucia descends into madness—culminating in the iconic “mad scene“, renowned for its high F note. As Edgardo curses her and Arturo lies dead, Lucia’s final aria becomes a vision of love beyond death. The opera closes with Edgardo’s suicide, sealing the fate of two lovers torn apart by power and pride.
Lucia di Lammermoor production, produced and directed by Prof. Lo Kingman, starring oversea singers including sopranos Lucrezia Drei and Aubry Ballarò as Lucia, tenor Pablo Bemsch as Edgardo, baritone Alexey Bogdanchikov as Enrico, and bass Mariano Buccino as Raimondo. They will perform with a group of local artists and Musica Viva Orchestra and Musica Viva Chorus under the baton of Vivian Ip.
Performed in Italian with Chinese and English surtitles.
