EVENT DESCRIPTION
Let’s step into the shoes of archaeologists with your children and explore the marvels of Chinese civilisation in a lively and vibrant manner.
Workshop Details:
- Discover the intriguing stories behind the artefacts from Erlitou Culture spanning from the Neolithic period to the Xia dynasty.
- Search for buried treasures and experience firsthand the work of archaeologists in a simulated setting, including excavation, measurement, and recording.
- Under the guidance of an instructor, create a clay piece resembling an artefact and take your creation home.
Please note:

- No prior experience in artistic creation is required.
- Suitable for children aged 5–12. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. No additional registration is needed for the accompanying adult. Each group may consist of up to two people, and each group will receive one set of materials.
- Participants will come into contact with soil and sand during the workshop. We recommend you bring a small towel for cleaning and/or wear suitable outfits.
This activity accompanies the special exhibition Bank of China (Hong Kong) Presents: “The Origins of Chinese Civilisation” in Gallery 8, on view from 25 September 2024 through 7 February 2025 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and Art Exhibitions China, the exhibition features nearly 110 treasures from the Neolithic period to the Xia dynasty, from 14 major cultural institutions.
