EVENT DESCRIPTION
An innovative and inter-discipline collaboration between MOViE MOViE and Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), Life is Art. Design in Motion is a film festival that celebrates arts and design and serves as one of the highlighted events of BODW City Programme (CityProg). Taking place from 23 November to 17 December at MOViE MOVIE Pacific Place, MOViE MOViE Cityplaza, Broadway Cinematheque, PALACE ifc, PREMIERE ELEMENTS and B+ cinema apm, this annual event celebrates the myriad mediums of the arts through workshops, interviews, film screenings, and multi-cultural events. Life is Art. Design in Motion is proudly supported by Hong Kong Architecture Centre.
Hong Kong Premiere
Life is Art. Design in Motion, in cooperation with HKDC, opens with the Hong Kong premiere of Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition, which showcases the biggest collective exhibition of Vermeer’s greatest paintings, and High & Low – John Galliano, which tells the story of fashion’s greatest yet most controversial designer. Closing the festival, Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus will be screened in remembrance of the iconic composer’s passing earlier this year.
The exciting new films at this year’s festival see the topic of “arts” encompassing vast categories, including design, art, music, dance and literature. Nam June Paik: Moon is the Oldest TV is an exploration of the bold and avant-garde artistic journey of M+ Museum artist Nam June Paik. MAU delves into how design genius Bruce Mau led the world in reform and gained favor with major international brands. Soviet Bus Stop follows a Canadian photographer in search of architectural marvels that bring together folk wisdom and craftsmanship. Alice: Curious and Curiouser features an exhibition in the renowned V&A Museum that takes you on a journey to wonderland. Dancing Pina sees a new generation reinterpretating the classic works of legendary choreographer Pina Bausch. Finally, A Bunch of Amateurs depicts how a group of British cinephiles passionately work to keep a film club alive.
In addition, Hong Kong Sinfonietta will host a screening of Tiny Galaxy Concert @Haw Par, filmed in a Grade I historical building in Hong Kong. Several promising new directors’ works will also grace the big screen once again: Keep Rolling, veteran art director Man Lim Chung’s documentary about the filmmaking journey of renowned Hong Kong director Ann Hui, and Macau director Hong Heng Fai’s Golden Horse-nominated debut feature film, Kissing the Ground You Walked On. Man Lim Chung will attend the screening of Keep Rolling to meet the audience.
