EVENT DESCRIPTION

With the support of Van Cleef & Arpels, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, first opened its doors in Place Vendôme in 2012, unveiling the vast and enchanting world of jewelry to everyone. L’ÉCOLE kicks off celebrations of its 10th anniversary with a series of activities around the globe, including the launch of L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific’s fourth exhibition Lacloche, Parisian Jewelers, 1892 – 1967 in November 2021 in Hong Kong, the only permanent campus outside of Paris.

From 22 November 2021 to 6 April 2022, the new “Lacloche, Parisian Jewelers, 1892 – 1967” Exhibition will shine a light on this long-forgotten Parisian jewelry house Lacloche. The monographic exhibition showcases the technical prowess and impeccable taste of one of the summits of high jewelry before the Maison’s demise in the 1960s. More than 40 pieces of rare jewelry, cases, compacts, precious clocks and timepieces will be featured, illustrating how the Maison’s delicate crafts and poetic style have developed and continue to have a lasting imprint. Premiered in Paris and now traveled to Hong Kong with newly selected creations, the exhibition is also the fruit of extensive research and the first-ever monographic publication Lacloche Jewelers dedicated to the Maison, written by the exhibition curator Laurence Mouillefarine together with Véronique Ristelhueber.

Founded in 1892 with modest beginnings, Lacloche opened their first premises at the prestigious address on Paris’ rue de la Paix in 1901, alongside great jewelry houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. In the 1920s, Lacloche became renowned at the forefront of the Art Deco movement; and stood out as one of the most revered Maisons across both sides of the Atlantic Ocean through the first half of the 20th century, catering to a vast, prestigious and international clientele including European royalty and Hollywood stars. Despite their abandon of the world of glitter to venture into the world of contemporary art and design in the 1960s, the jeweler’s innovations and creations continue to captivate audiences today.

The exhibition will be open to the public with free guided tours available in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Pre-registration online is recommended. An audio guide service will be available on-site in all three languages.
