EVENT DESCRIPTION
Contemporary by Angela Li is proud to present solo exhibition of Kwong Man Chun, “Glowing in Serenity”, featuring his recent works created in the last year. Kwong Man Chun’s art captures the essence of local landscapes, delving into the human elements and intimate moments that shape people’s lives. By focusing on the temporal aspects of daily life, such as ripples in water and textures in stones and trees, Kwong brings these scenes to life. Merging classic ink and wash techniques with elements of contemporary expression, his paintings radiate calmness and invite appreciation for intricate interior details like the meticulously depicted floor tiles, wooden furniture and sentimental personal objects, showcasing the enchanting charm of our surroundings and creates a heartfelt connection to the artwork. The exhibition reception will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, 23 May 2024, with the artist present. The exhibition will remain on view until 29 June 2024.
Drawing inspiration from his recent journey to Japan, Kwong combines elements such as unique stone paths, vibrant cherry trees, and the tranquil mysteries of Japanese gardens, infusing his artwork with their essence. He also captures the serenity and harmonious beauty inherent in these distant landscapes, presenting them to viewers in all their captivating glory. Leveraging his knowledge of years of painting, he employs the blank canvas as a channel to refine his thoughts, liberating it from the constraints of trivialities. The soft day light evokes emotions of warmth, comfort, nostalgia, and intimacy, crafting a soothing ambiance that recalls treasured memories and peaceful instances.
