EVENT DESCRIPTION
Quiet Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming solo exhibition showcasing new works by internationally renowned artist Katsuya Terada.
Katsuya Terada is a multitalented creative artist who is active in the fields of illustration, manga, video games, and anime character design. He was born in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan in 1963, and graduated from the Asakusa School of Art in Tokyo. His works possess a rebellious, grandiose, and mysterious quality that has not only swept across the Asian illustration scene but also earned fervent acclaim in the Western art world.
Hailed as a “genius painter”, Terada is adept at using pencils, ballpoint pens, marker pens, and digital pens for his artwork. He has the remarkable ability to complete vivid and impactful works without the need for preliminary sketches, almost as if possessing magical talents.
Live painting is also one of Terada’s strong suits. His solid painting skills and extraordinary imagination allowed him to freely create masterpieces on blank canvases in a short amount of time, truly astonishing to behold.
Terada’s distinctive style covers a wide range of themes. Machinery, women, and monsters are the most common subjects in his works. In his younger years, he was greatly influenced by French comic artist Moebius and Japanese manga artist Osamu Tezuka, so his style not only encompasses traditional Japanese elements but also integrates Western influences, creating a cross-cultural visual language. This open-minded creative attitude lends a rich cultural diversity to Terada’s works.
This exhibition will showcase new works by Katsuya Terada. In these latest creations, Terada’s lines have become more streamlined and refined, yet still possess remarkable tension and explosive power. He also utilizes flowing, dynamic lines to generate various visually energetic and captivating effects. Every stroke is imbued with the personal emotions and artistic ideals of the artist, emanating an indescribable force and beauty. Viewers may sense the profound wisdom and abundant vitality hidden behind the lines when appreciating these works.
