12 August 2023 - 2 September 2023

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Prepare to be swept away on a whirlwind of artistic ecstasy as Gallery Ascend presents a spellbinding exhibition that blurs the boundaries of creativity and captivates the imagination. KAI and Fandi invites you to embark on an exhilarating journey through a realm where contrasts collide and colors converse.

KAI, the enigmatic virtuoso of obscurity, conjures a symphony of monochrome marvels that dance between light and shadow. With each stroke, Kai’s canvases become portals to an alternate dimension – a dimension where silence resonates louder than words, and ambiguity is an art form in itself. The canvas becomes a canvas no more, but a gateway to introspection.

In a vivid counterpoint, Fandi Angga Saputra, a maestro of vibrant vivacity, beckons you to immerse yourself in his kaleidoscopic tapestry of memories and dreams. From the lush landscapes of Indonesia to the very canvas before you, Fandi’s brushstrokes are a jubilant celebration of life’s exuberance. It’s a symphony of colors that crescendos with each glance. But here’s where the magic truly unfolds – the fusion of Kai and Fandi’s contrasting styles. A choreographed duet of monochrome and chromatic, shadow and light, form and color. It’s a pas de deux that transcends the limits of the expected and waltzes into uncharted artistic territory. Like two cosmic dancers, they sway between worlds, leaving trails of wonder in their wake.

In a whirlwind of strokes and hues, “Ethereal Fusion” promises an intoxicating blend of artistic prowess that will leave you spellbound. The air tingles with anticipation, and the canvas becomes a stage for boundless expression. As you step into this immersive realm, you’re not merely a spectator – you’re part of an enchanting narrative, a dance of contrasts that invites you to lose yourself in its rhythm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

KAI purposefully hides their personal profile in the public realm so that they are known solely for their identity as an artist. As such, their viewers will not be distracted by any associated text or premise when they approach their works. They refuse to have their works hijacked by over-interpretation or over-flooding texts. It asks the viewer questions about existence or non-existence. KAI sees this as a performance. Who in the world is creating that "world". Or perhaps there is no such thing as a world.

Fandi Angga Saputra is originally from Lampung but lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, after graduating from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta - Fine Arts major in 2020, Fandi started drawing as a hobby and after being submitted in many competitions, trying several types of drawing like caricature and calligraphy, his works now focus on painting. His painting also has been exhibited in several countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, the United States, and France. The surrealist paintings of Fandi are deeply inspired by his childhood memories in the village, who likes to play outside and enjoy nature. Nowadays, activities like exploring the environment, walking on the grass under shady trees, and recognizing various plants and animals are hard to do. As time goes by, increasing industrial development, lack of green space, modern life, and destruction of nature make memories fade. Working in acrylic on canvas with fresh color palettes, Fandi is fascinated by the beauty of the natural world. Fandi likes to observe his surroundings—the people, the plants, the animals, then transform them into various unique objects or figures to create harmony in his painting.
