Hong Kong art gallery Art Supermarket is pleased to present 10 Years Art Supermarket, the Jubilee-Exhibition with new works by British street- and pop art artist Szabotage, South African pop art artist Norman O’Flynn and the French street art artist JM Robert. The show will be on display from 10 Dec 2021 until 26 Feb 2022.
In the past 10 years, Hong Kong art gallery Art Supermarket has gone through various milestones with different outstanding artists and is honored to present fabulous exhibitions.
In 2013, Florentine painter Elisabetta Rogai who is the only artist in the world, who can paint with real wine, has presented her inspirative and skillful wine painting exhibition with Art Supermarket. Painting with wine is no easy task and Rogai has presented her well-technique wine-based paint on canvas which doesn’t fade. Portraits of women in dark red tones oozes the aroma of wine, forge the paintings more delicate, charming and intoxicating.
Also in 2013, world known American artist-couple, Bryan & Michelle Dodson from Integrated Visions has showcased a multi-media exhibition Fluid Consciousness in Art Supermarket, which at that time has never been seen before in Hong Kong. Bryan & Michelle Dodson used to combine their fine art training with the understanding of cutting-edge technology to create immersive installations, artworks and public art. For Fluid Consciousness, they amalgamate the traditional art materials of pigment on canvas with cutting edge digital projections and developed a new medium capable of creating a magical viewing experience by using video mapped projected animations to add a sense of mystery and wonder, bringing to their abstract paintings to life for the viewer.
In 2016, Art Supermarket presents Talking Animals featuring new artworks by international artists Phil Hayes and M. Chat. Talking Animals is an exhibition that takes audience into a simple and open feeling universe seen through animals’ eyes. The French artist M. Chat created with size of around 13 m x 13 m properly the biggest mural artwork at that time in HK by spray-painted on the facade of Hotel Jen his signature cat, which could be seen even from the Peak.
Three remarkable artists that upsurging along with Art Supermarket are taking part, including Szabotage, Norman O’Flynn and JM Robert. This new exhibition will showcase new artworks by these three artists, they are the artistic pillars of Art Supermarket and supported the gallery to gain local and international recognition throughout these years.
Szabotage is a visual artist, street artist and designer, who has become a prominent figure on the local Hong Kong art scene since his arrival in Asia from the UK five years ago. Inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic style of urban architecture and emotive streetscapes, his pieces incorporate bright neon colors mixed with popular culture references. Through his artwork, he explores themes of personal freedom with a humorous play on words.
As growing French artist, JM Robert is part of the top 10 artists to absolutely follow on artsper.com and one of his paintings was projected on the Arc de Triomphe (Paris) during the celebration of 2016 new year. The damaged walls of buildings fascinate JM Robert. He always feels the thrill in front of deteriorated and degraded walls, this is his source of inspiration. On one hand he tries to develop his own aesthetic design of ruins, on the other hand his paintings want to speak a contemporary language that reflects the history and story of our cities.
Norman O’Flynn from South Africa has a deep understanding of the pop art tradition and explores the meaning of this genre in modern context. The state of humanity is questioned and interpreted in his work with ironically portrayed by playful and harmless manner, an intentional cynical and dark sense of humor. His currents series Timekeeper depicts a tribe of unshakable observers, striking figures covered in frenetic and portentous tattoo-like markings. It suggests tattoo’s function, like the rings inside a tree trunk, accumulates over time, and experience and emotion are selectively archived on the skin. The globally recognizable imagery is used as his unique visual language, that are employed in his satirical observation of society.
