EVENT DESCRIPTION
Taking Para Site’s 26-year history as a point of departure, we have invited Jeff Cheng Tsz Fung and Li Hiuwa, two artists using photography as their primary medium, to engage with the Para Site archive in an experiment in historical memory and temporality in Para Site’s rooftop studio.
While Cheng uses macrophotography to subject his subjects, themselves archival photographs, to repeated reproduction, Li revives the daguerreotype while removing the subjects from his image capturing process. In ways that disrupt photography as a medium and practice, the presentation contemplates the reliability of photography as documentation, and interrogates the accumulation and deterioration of meaning in photographs over time. The exhibition is curated by Kobe Ko.
