International Arts Carnival 2024

5 July - 11 August

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The International Arts Carnival (IAC) will return this summer with a series of enjoyable programmes and activities by overseas and local arts groups and artists.

To kick off this year’s IAC, the internationally acclaimed national-level acrobatic troupe China National Acrobatic Troupe returns triumphantly after years apart with their 70th anniversary celebration programme Me and My Youth. The group, which won numerous accolades at home and abroad, showcases the acrobats’ “superpowers” by performing a series of mind-boggling, gravity-defying stunts that surpass human limitations. Renowned Hong Kong-born magician Louis Yan will unveil never-before-seen illusions in his first original magic theatre show Magic-go-round. Japanese illusionist Hiroki Hara, who has astounded audience on TV show America’s Got Talent, will conjure miracles right before your eyes with Louis. Acrobatics and magic capture the audience’s heart by seemingly impossible feats. It would be spectacular to have thousands of audience members cheering together in the theatre!

Attention, all energetic children, come join us for the performance! TPO Compagnia from Italy brings an interactive multimedia dance performance in +Erba — A Forest in the City that makes magic happen with technology. With immersive and interactive video projection, children can evoke a green city by drawing with their bodies, sowing the seeds of a sustainable future. Local artists also showcase their boundless creativity. You can immerse in the heat of rhythm and beat with percussionist Anna Fan and percussion group “dǎ jiān” in Dǎ Jiān Ninja: Finding Dreams, and discover the secrets of the animal world in Animal Gacha by Rice Journey Production.

Swedish artist Dalija Acin Thelander’s latest work Fields of Tender is based on multi-year research into dance and neurodiversity, which allows 3-18 month-old babies of all abilities to have fun and explore freely in a peaceful space. Thelander will also reach out to the public and share her philosophy of inclusive dance in a flash mob performance in the foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Theatrical interpretation, audio description and touch tour will also be provided in a number of programmes so that the hearing impaired and the visually impaired can also enjoy the arts.
