EVENT DESCRIPTION
SC Gallery presents Hon6 hon6 (瀚瀚), showcasing the latest works by four emerging artists: Dallas Lee, Arlie Leung, Rina He, and Dave Ho. The character “瀚” signifies grandeur and is often used to describe nature, evoking a sense of its magnificence and splendor. However, this complex ecosystem contains various details: a leaf, a fruit, an insect… all existing in the ever-changing environment, intricately forming an harmonious ecology. These small yet incredibly resilient lives have brought comfort and insights to people of the modern time. In this exhibition, the four artists draw inspiration from the elements of their natural surroundings, bringing fragments of life into the light and exploring themes of existentialism, memory, and transformation.
Arlie is largely inspired by her countryside journeys, with each painting reflecting different locations. Painted on coarse linen canvas with ambiguous organic lines and shapes, she highlights the small corners observed in the outskirts and outlying islands of Hong Kong.
Rina He’s practice integrates modern ink paintings with mixed media creations. For this exhibition, she has chosen various organisms as her subjects. By capturing their forms of life and unique habits, she reflects on the cyclical nature of life and the ideology of existentialism.
Dallas’s paintings indicate an intersection of time, space, and memory. She overlaps memories from her studies in Sweden, her travels abroad, and her life in Hong Kong. Through her use of various materials in her painting techniques, she creates imaginary landscapes that exist between dreams and recollections.
Dave’s creations merge ceramics and woodworking, exploring the relationship between wood and clay (the symbiotic relationship between trees and soil). Through the interaction between these materials, he poses a question: Will these two materials ultimately return to their origins as trees?
These artists choose to highlight subtle fragments in their works, inviting viewers to appreciate the interconnections of life. Their attention on these delicate elements serves as a reminder that amidst chaos, it is often the little things in our surroundings that provide inspiration and guidance.
