Heritage Alive: Preserving and revitalising the Past to build the Future

26 February - 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Just two months ago, Notre Dame cathedral in Paris reopened its door after an extensive campaign of restoration, shedding a light of the universal value of heritage, its history and its impact on our current world.

The importance, impact and challenges of heritage repurposing and revitalisation to understand the Present and build the Future is the topic that will be explored during the “Heritage Alive” sharing evening, organised by Fondation de France Asia on 26 February 2025, at the Asia Society.

Co-organised with the Consulate General of France, in association with the Centre des Monuments Nationaux (French National Monuments official Trust), experts from the field will present successful revitalisation of historical monuments thereafter open to the public such as the palace of the coronation of the kings of France, or closer to us, the Forbidden City Palace Museum in Beijing or the Tai O police station in Hong Kong.

Topic of the discussion: What are the challenges and importance of keeping our heritage alive, and what impact does it make to the community, locally and internationally?

Experts in France and in Hong Kong will share their experience in dealing with the conservation of major heritage sites dating back centuries, and the challenges of their adaptation to the 21st centry and to public access: from traditional techniques and craftmanship preservation to accessibility, objects and furniture conservation and presentation to educational and pedagogic tools.

Speakers:

  • Jocelyn Bouraly, Expert in litterature and heritage, Head Administrator of Palais du Tau, Centre des Monuments Nationaux
  • Melanie Kwok, Head of Sustainability of Sino Group and Hong Kong Heritage Conservation Foundation
  • Happy Harun, Project Director of the China Heritage Foundation
