EVENT DESCRIPTION

Step into a world of boundless joy and whimsical wonder as Harvey Nichols partners with acclaimed Japanese artist Yasuhito Kawasaki to present an enchanting pop-up exhibition Summer Adventure.

Prepare to journey through Kawasaki’s extraordinary imagination, where curious blue bears, dream-like birds, and shimmering apples come alive in a celebration of innocence, creativity, and the magic of everyday moments. Kawasaki’s signature playful style—blending painting, ceramics, and fiberglass sculpture—transports visitors to a vibrant dreamscape where the lines between reality and fantasy blur. Summer Adventure is a kaleidoscope of cheerful colors, mythical symbols, and heartfelt storytelling. Each piece is a playful invitation to rediscover the world through the eyes of a child. The wide-eyed blue bear reflects innocence and self-discovery, the blue bird whispers hidden joys, and the apple, glowing with possibility, reminds us to embrace curiosity and take that bold first step.

The exhibition showcases an eclectic mix of Kawasaki’s works, including his beloved self-portraits, narrative paintings, and playful sculptures, all inspired by reflections on family, mythology, and life’s delightful surprises. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just curious about the world, this exhibition is a joyful escape for everyone. It is a reminder to stay curious, dream big, and find magic in the everyday. Come play, explore, and maybe even find your own blue bear or apple waiting to tell its story.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Born in Saga Prefecture in 1983, Yasuhito Kawasaki is a Japanese artist known for his introspective and narrative works. After earning a Master's degree in casting from Kanazawa Art University in 2010, he honed his skills at a casting company, collaborating on projects with renowned artists like Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. In 2013, Kawasaki became an independent artist, focusing on self-portraiture using fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP). Following his marriage to a ceramic artist in 2018, he expanded his practice to ceramics and painting. During the pandemic, his art shifted toward themes of isolation, exploring closed spaces and the inner world through story-like drawings inspired by mythology, family, and personal reflection. A recurring motif in his work is the Apple, drawn from the story of Adam and Eve.
