EVENT DESCRIPTION

Studio for Narrative Spaces is excited to announce FUTURE TENSE HONG KONG, an innovative exhibition that reimagines the intangible aspects of the city’s cultural heritage. This event highlights how social change, climate change, and urban development shape the future of Hong Kong’s identity, as envisioned by its residents.

Cultural heritage encompasses not only physical artifacts but also transient processes, improvised actions, and expressed imaginations. In our rapidly evolving, technology-driven world, intangible elements such as culinary methods, social customs, and collective imaginations are frequently overlooked, often lacking the careful documentation afforded to physical artifacts.

FUTURE TENSE HONG KONG presents a VR navigation app that immersively maps Hong Kong’s cultural heritage, alongside a photography and VR exhibit featuring food imagery created by workshop participants using cutting-edge Stable Diffusion technology. The exhibition also includes two multimedia artworks by Cyan D’Anjou and Foreseen Agency that speculate on immersive visual futures, along with works by Paul Shepherd and Inhwa Yeom that draw audiences into two techno-culture worlds reflecting our unique cultural idiosyncrasies.

“FUTURE TENSE aims to show audiences the often-overlooked intangible aspects of our cultural heritage,” said the Creative Director of the project, RAY LC,  CityU, Assistant Professor, Multimedia artist. “Through state-of-the-art AI and VR technology, we invite visitors to engage in a community dialogue about how our intangible heritage can be preserved for the future.”

By amplifying the voices and imaginations of its people, this exhibition fosters a collective conversation about the preservation and transformation of Hong Kong’s heritage in an ever-evolving landscape.
