$480

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Join us this November when renowned local jazz pianists Ted Lo and Joyce Cheung come together on stage, for the first time, for a cross-generational performance highlighting the powerful evolution of Hong Kong’s jazz scene.

Through a curated programme of original work and new arrangements, the performance fuses veteran artist Lo’s strong foundation in traditional and contemporary jazz and Cheung’s more classical education – allowing both artists to showcase their shared musical interests and experiences, as well as their individual, critically acclaimed jazz skills.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Hong Kong-born jazz pianist Ted Lo graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 1976. During his critically acclaimed career, he has collaborated with jazz legends including Ron Carter, Herbie Mann and Astrud Gilberto, performed at venues such as Blue Note Jazz Club and Hollywood Bowl, as well as festivals like Montreux and Newport Jazz Festival. After returning to Hong Kong in 1996, Lo became a key figure in the local music scene, working with top artists and orchestras. In 2021, he was named one of Tatler Asia’s Most Influential, and in 2024, he presented his second collaboration with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Hong Kong-based jazz pianist, performer, arranger and composer Joyce Cheung graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a first degree honours in Film Scoring, Contemporary Writing and Production (2014) and a Master’s in Contemporary Performance (2017). Cheung has headlined the Freespace Jazz Festival since 2022, and in 2023 shared the stage with Poppy Adjudha at Blue Note in Tokyo. In 2024, Cheung staged her Once in a Blue Moon concert at Hong Kong City Hall – a programme of popular and classical hits rearranged by Cheung – performing with a 13-member band and Hong Kong pop-artists Janice Vidal, Yoyo Sham, Cloud Wan and Terence Lam. Cheung has released three albums, Set Loose, Jazzical Collection and The Études, with The Études nominated for four awards and named Best Instrumental Album at the 2025 Golden Melody Awards.
