FOCASA Circus – One to One Hundred: A Brave Journey

Revered Taiwanese choreographer Lin Hwai-min—a pioneering figure in contemporary dance and the visionary behind Cloud Gate Dance Theatre for five decades—returns with his most surprising production yet. This comeback work is a groundbreaking collaboration with FOCASA, Taiwan’s first professional circus troupe, inspired by the beloved illustrations of Jimmy Liao, a household name in the Chinese-speaking world.
From page to stage, iconic scenes from Liao’s picture books are transformed into breathtaking theatrical backdrops. FOCASA’s artists, who rose from humble beginnings in Taiwan to international acclaim, showcase their remarkable skills and unwavering determination—earning the admiration of Lin himself, who directs the entire performance.
Following more than 30 sold-out shows and thunderous applause across Taiwan, the production is now coming to Hong Kong. As Liao’s cherished characters leap off the pages and take centre stage, the storytelling is accompanied by a curated soundtrack including Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Shostakovich’s waltzes and Mandarin pop music. The fusion of acrobatic stunts, visual storytelling and music creates moments of joy, wonder and heartfelt healing.
