Fifteen Fantasies Comics Exhibition

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Collaborating with Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, Hong Kong Arts Centre (Comix Home Base) promotes 15 local original mid/full-length comic books. A series of activities will be held in Hong Kong Arts Centre: Fifteen Fantasies Comics Exhibition, Opening Reception, Live Drawing Marathon and Artist Talks. All the above events offer free admission.

In this year’s Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong, 15 local start-ups participating in the HK Comics Support Programme simultaneously launched their original mid/full-length drama comic books. In a wide variety of drawing styles and genres, these comic books have won rave reviews from comics enthusiasts and are all the rage in Hong Kong’s comics scene. Some of the works sold out quickly and have been reprinted. Keeping up the momentum, the Book Launch Event this time hopes to share the positive feedbacks received from comics fans to a wider group of readers who love comics and visual arts!

Hong Kong Arts Centre (Comix Home Base) has been proactive in fostering the development of local comics creativity as well as promoting the creation of drama comics. We have hosted different Comic Book Launch Events and have assisted local comics artists in actively seeking cooperation opportunities for more overseas publications. Meanwhile, we have organised Comics Master Class so as to nurture more new talents creating ‘Hong Kong-made’ drama comics.

HK Comics Support Programme (HKCSP) is organised by the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation (HKCAF) and is supported by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the lead sponsor. HKCSP contributes to supporting and nurturing Hong Kong comics artists and local comics start-ups, offering a comprehensive package of assistance with creation and marketing of their works. It becomes a realisation of comics artists’ dreams – turning their imaginative worlds into a physical comic book and sharing it to readers.

Hong Kong Arts Centre and Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation share the same philosophy. In this connection, two parties work in partnership with one another to show every detail in these 15 local comic books in themes of science fiction, action, horror, astronomy and romance respectively. It is further anticipated that audience can be on an imaginative voyage through a world of graphics and words being intertwined.

The exhibition features comics drawings selected from each of the 15 comic books published under HK Comics Support Programme for the very first time. Together with a display of reference materials like drafts, notes, storyboard and character settings from the comics artists and their production teams, the show gives a glimpse into the secrets of the creator of each comic book. All the efforts that go into these comic books not only showcase the unique charm, but also enrich readers’ understanding and appreciation of these 15 works.
