25 April - 26 July

Free

EVENT DESCRIPTION

This exhibition presents a fine selection of 65 landscape paintings from the collection of the National Museum of China. Created between the 15th and 19th centuries, these works are organised into two sections, namely Exploring Magnificent Landscapes and Expressing Sentiments through Nature. The exhibition showcases the richness and diversity of Chinese landscape paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, while probing the interplay between realism and freehand, depiction and inner experience, topography and brushwork, nature and abstraction, as well as representation and expression.

The exhibition offers a broad overview of classical Chinese landscape art. It also demonstrates how artists translated their journeys through nature into visual form, expressing personal sentiments through an array of brushwork styles. The body of works reveals the visual approaches and philosophical ideas through which ancient Chinese people understood life and the world around them. Together, these works create a fluid dialogue between historical art and contemporary audiences, achieving a visual and spiritual journey through the aesthetics of Chinese landscape painting.
