EVENT DESCRIPTION
On 2 March 1962, the City Hall Art Gallery & Museum (the predecessor of today’s Hong Kong Museum of Art) was officially established, marking the birth of Hong Kong’s first public art museum and signifying the beginning of a journey in which the Museum and artists have grown together, hand in hand, in pursuit of their collective dreams. These artists, by inheriting traditions and embracing innovation, have created countless masterpieces that form an integral part of the Museum’s collection.
This exhibition offers a retrospective view through projection and interactive elements, retracing the footsteps of generations of artists in the pursuit of their dreams. A team of local architects and designers, led by Kevin Siu and Shuyan Chan, in collaboration with graphic designer Gary Tong, have meticulously crafted a unique and directional space that encourages the audience to explore in the gallery, while learning about the development and evolution of Hong Kong art.
Dreamchasers: Stories of Hong Kong Art is not only a reflection on the past, but also an aspiration for the future, prompting audiences to reconsider the meaning of art in their lives and to continue innovating and seeking breakthroughs in the artistic landscape, step by step, in pursuit of and fulfilling their dreams.
