The Hong Kong art scene is entering a new era of ceramic art. This exhibition brings together Hong Kong’s top ceramic artists, fully showcasing the city’s thriving artistic power. The works of Emily Au, Joyce Lung, and Benny To are all remarkably masterful, eliciting awe at their artistic prowess. These artists have cleverly integrated modern aesthetics, successfully propelling ceramics into new artistic realms. They have broken the preconception of ceramics being merely practical tools, imbuing the medium with fresh vitality through their unique creativity. By elevating Hong Kong ceramics onto the international art stage and garnering widespread attention, they have set a new benchmark for the Hong Kong art community.
The three artists are Hong Kong artists with their own Hong Kong stories, and their works are undoubtedly “Made in Hong Kong”. Artist Emily Au is of mixed Chinese and Canadian heritage, with her father hailing from Hong Kong. Her multicultural background has imbued her artistic vision with a broader perspective. Her works transcend the ordinary constraints of ceramics, playfully blending realism and whimsy. Using raw, bloody meat as her subject matter, she unveils a tumultuous transformation within.
