Clay to Treasure: Ceramics from the Palace Museum Collection
2 July 2022 - 2 July 2023
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Palace Museum is home to one of the world’s richest collections of Chinese ceramics. Presenting highlights from the collection, the exhibition surveys China’s ceramic traditions, with a focus on technical and aesthetic achievements in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The works on display range from everyday household goods to luxuries used by the ruling elite to display their status and taste. These treasures— many on display for the first time in Hong Kong—offer a stunning overview of one of China’s most enduring artistic traditions. Out of the 169 spectacular works, 66 are grade-one national treasures, accounting for nearly 40% of the grade-one objects on loan from the Palace Museum.
The exhibition is divided into three sections to feature some of the most iconic objects in the Palace Museum collection.
Section One: The most iconic objects in the prestigious Palace Museum collection.
Section Two: Significant ceramic works from the Neolithic period to the Yuan dynasty.
Section Three: The finest Ming and Qing imperial porcelains.
This exhibition has a few learning areas where visitors can enjoy innovative multimedia and interactive features to deepen their understanding of ceramic production technology, decorative motifs, and kiln sites in China. One learning area presents loans from the Antiquities and Monuments Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) and Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
