Chilled Steps: Sonic Awakening (May 2026)

In May this year, Tai Kwun will join forces with Blindcat Music to present a three-day mini-music festival, inviting a diverse lineup of local independent artists and bands to perform live and share the vibrant spectrum of Hong Kong’s music culture with audiences.

Chilled Steps: Sonic Awakening kicks off with two stylistically distinct singer-songwriters: Gwenji and singpuiii. Gwenji is a local independent folk singer-songwriter, known for her delicate melodies and intimate, whispered vocals. She crafts deeply emotional and heavy stories that create an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of a dark fairytale. singpuiii, on the other hand, brings a dreamy and refreshing style, incorporating 2000s Hong Kong Dream Pop and Indie Pop elements. Her music features light, upbeat rhythms and a whimsical, dreamy quality. She is also a current member of Modern Children, injecting fresh energy into the local Indie Pop scene.

On Saturday, the Laundry Steps will be transformed into a reggae dancehall. General Lino & The Captains will lead with their explosive Afro Reggae energy, delivering a high-energy live performance. Murphy and The Lawyers will blend African rhythms with reggae dancehall grooves to create irresistibly addictive beats. At last, the “Godfather of Cantonese Reggae” — MouseFX, will deliver Roots Reggae filled with messages of universal love and humanistic spirit.

Sunday’s finale features a rich and diverse lineup, beginning with a soothing, ethereal sound journey by Chor Lai & Ah Lok Handpan Duo. Hotly tipped local act Wantamnam will perform as a duo with members Fengyi and Kuma, presenting poetic miniatures that sing of urban culture and cityscapes. Finally, Mr Koo will infuse blues and psychedelic elements into surf rock, reinterpreting the genre with a nostalgic, soulful summer charm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

First introduced to audience in Mar 2021, Chilled Steps is a series of live concerts curated by Hong Kong musicians to showcase an array of musical styles. From classical, jazz, pop to world music, musicians and music lovers come together to immerse themselves in the refreshing melodies and be rejuvenated after a long day. The series serves as a platform for independent musicians and producers to take on the role of a curator. Each cultivating their own distinguished styles, over 200 local musicians have performed at the Laundry Steps in the past five years. The relax atmosphere and up-close encounters have been enjoyed by musicians and audience alike.
