CameraWomen: Films by Women Cinematographers

Hong Kong Arts Centre is proud to present CameraWomen: Films by Women Cinematographers. This exciting moving image programme will take place at the Louis Koo Cinema of the Hong Kong Arts Centre from 14 June and 23 September 2023, and will showcase the works of women cinematographers from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, and other countries. Co-presented by Alliance Française Hong Kong, Austrian Consulate General in Hongkong and Macao, Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong, Goethe-Institut Hongkong, Swiss Films, Wallonie-Bruxelles Images and Wallonie-Bruxelles International, and with special contribution from ARRI Hong Kong Limited, the programme will be kicked off with a screening of Love According to Dalva, the directorial feature debut of Belgian director Emmanuelle Nicot, with cinematography by Caroline Guimbal. This film has won prizes at Cannes, Rotterdam, and Hong Kong international film festivals.

Women have held vital positions in filmmaking, including cinematography. However, cinematography has traditionally been a male-dominated profession. Despite this stereotype, many women have broken through and established themselves as accomplished cinematographers. CameraWomen aims to recognize their contributions and provide a platform for their work to be seen and appreciated.

After-screening talks will be arranged by inviting the featured cinematographers and/or their directors, providing an opportunity for audiences to learn about the challenges, skills, and mindsets required to succeed in this field. The programme also aims to inspire women to pursue careers in cinematography and encourage greater diversity in the film industry.
