EVENT DESCRIPTION
Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest marks Gareth Brown’s first thematic solo photography exhibition in Hong Kong. Rooted in years of dedicated practice within the realm of dance photography, the exhibition investigates the charged and continual exchange between movement and stillness—along with the renewed significance that emerges within that tension. Across a range of settings, dancers become both subject and catalyst, revealing how bodily gesture can transform space into meaning.
Originally from the UK, Brown has lived in Hong Kong for many years, cultivating an intimate and enduring relationship with the city. With a distinctive visual sensibility, he approaches Hong Kong with both sensitivity and precision—attending to the gestures, rhythms, and micro-movements of his subjects with an almost tactile attentiveness. Through sustained collaboration with local dancers, he has developed a body of site-specific dance photography, in which choreography meets place and the city’s texture becomes inseparable from the image.
Presented in this exhibition, Brown’s work offers audiences the opportunity to witness a creative dialogue between photographer and dancer—one that extends beyond documentation to imaginative expansion. Together, they open new possibilities for interpreting the city’s spaces, infusing the urban landscapes that continually captivate Brown with fresh life, perspective, and narrative resonance.
The photography exhibition Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest is presented in collaboration between the Hong Kong Dance Alliance and photographer Gareth Brown. The exhibition will be held at THE CORNER SHOP BY MONDRIAN HONG KONG in Tsim Sha Tsui.
