Belgian Days 2025: The Ink Meditation Room
8 November 2025 - 15 November 2025
FreeEVENT DESCRIPTION
The Ink Meditation Room offers an immersive installation of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Ink, inviting our guests to pause, reflect, and engage with art and culture. This unique exhibition allows visitors to delve into the meaning and creative process behind the eight characters that Hilde Mertens uses to explore the paradigms of constant change and Qi, interdependence and the essence of all things, when writing ink becomes meditation.
Throughout the duration of the installation, the Meditation Room will also serve as a venue for music performances, a storytelling collaboration with Lingnan University, meditation sessions, and a variety of other artistic expressions.
For all activities, RSVP to hildemertensink@gmail.com or annietsoi192@gmail.com.
ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER
HILDE MERTENS is a contemporary Chinese calligraphy artist. Born in Belgium, she calls Hong Kong and Asia her home, having worked in Investment & Private Banking and Management Consulting across Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, and London. Hilde holds a Master's in Chinese & Economics, is an alumnus of Oxford Said Business School, and serves on the board of Lingnan University. She draws from thousands of years of Chinese calligraphy, poems and symbols to explore the energy, flow and empty spaces in the brush strokes of the classical masters and the constant change of the “ten thousand things”. All, to answer one question that intrigued her for a while: is a single brush stroke still art. Hilde had the unique opportunity to learn from a Chinese master and has exhibited her work at The Hong Kong Club I&II, Le Meridien-Cyberport, Bloomberg, Jebsen & BE Days ‘24, and Hang Lung.Details
