The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) and the Chinachem Group (CCG) jointly present the miniature art exhibition “An Art Journey into the Past and Present Urban Reinvention • Advance Beyond 25” at the Central Market. It is the first large-scale exhibition with the theme of urban development to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR.

A total of 100 exhibits are showcased, making it the largest miniature exhibition ever in Hong Kong, among which 25 exhibits are new art pieces. The exhibition covers various scenic spots and community characteristics of different districts in Hong Kong.

The 100 miniature models feature the local characteristics and the urban landscapes in 18 districts, which tell the stories of the city’s history, culture, streetscapes, architectures, cuisines and human interests.

One of the highlights is the “Victoria Harbour”, a 1:750 miniature model depicting 40 iconic architectures from Central to Wan Chai. The artist presents the magic with a pair of hands with extraordinary skills, alongside the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM). The iconic architectures feature some of the recent landmarks, including the Central Market revitalised by the URA, operated and managed by CCG; the newly opened Exhibition Centre Station on the MTR East Rail Line last month, as well as the metropolitan integrating the old and new cityscapes. In addition, the application of augmented reality, computerised engraving, and animation, with the incorporation of the interactive elements, brings the exhibits to life, providing the visitors an immersive experience to travel back in time, present and the future.

Amongst all exhibits, 25 miniature models make their first debut in Hong Kong. These include: “Pinwheels Stall at Wong Tai Sin Temple” with handmade pinwheels, “Sha Tin Dragon Boat Race” with all the festivities surrounding the occasion; “Lan Kwai Fong” representing the East meets West culture, and the new landmark for Chinese opera, “Xiqu Centre”. The entire collection of 100 miniature models forms part of the people’s collective memories of the city and will strike the chords in many visitors.

Phase 2 of the exhibition will feature a collection of 40 new extraordinary exhibits, one of them is enhanced by the artists specifically for this miniature exhibition. The Joyful Miniature Association has invited the famous Canadian artist, Sylvain Forget to create An Autumn’s Tale with the two protagonists Chow Yun Fat and Cherie Chung. Other “Must See” exhibits included the classical Chinese banquet venue Dragon And Phoenix Hall X Manchu Han Imperial Feast, and Sunset in Lei Yue Mun featuring the historic fishing village, presenting Hong Kong’s unique local culture and custom.

This miniature art exhibition is co-organised by the Joyful Miniature Association, showcasing a total of 100 exhibits, integrating traditional craftsmanship and modern advanced technology such as computer animation, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3D printing, covering all 18 districts of Hong Kong, presenting Hong Kong’s history, culture, street scenes, architecture and food. The artworks represent 100 precious collective memories of Hong Kong people which will surely strike the chords of visitors. For more people to enjoy the exhibition, guided tours and workshops for students, elderly, disabled persons, ethnic minorities and so on are arranged to achieve social inclusion.
