EVENT DESCRIPTION

On Sunday 04 February 2024 (Sun) at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, 7:30pm City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK) conducted by Vahan Mardirossian will give a concert with the world-renowned music prodigy musician-composer Alma Deutscher.

The concert marks Alma Deutscher’s Hong Kong debut and will  showcase her outstanding multi-talents as a composer, solo violinist, solo pianist and conductor. Programme highlights include Alma Deutscher appearing as soloist in the performance of two of her solo concerto compositions: the concerto for violin in G minor and the concerto for piano in E flat major. She will also conduct Waltz of the Sirens, one of her compositions for orchestra which is heavily inspired by the street noises and sirens in Vienna. To round of the programme, CCOHK will give a performance of a Sinfonia by Marianna Martines, another incredibly talented female composer-musician who was a contemporary of Mozart and whose music has only recently been rediscovered.

Alma Deutscher ‘s musical gifts have brought her to prominence on the world stage since the age of 10. Described as a “miracle child” (Kleine Zeitung) and as a “wunderkind” (Kronen Zeitung), Alma Deutscher is a rare phenomenon. Her multiple talents in music and her extraordinary gift for composition set her apart from other music prodigies. She started the piano at the age of 2 and the violin at the age of 3. At the age of 6 she wrote her first piano sonata and at the age of 10 her first opera. At the age of 12 she composed a full-length opera called Cinderella which is the zenith of her compositional output. Her musical compositions show mastery of form and are bursting with beautiful melodies which often arrive unbidden in her dreams. For her Hong Kong debut Alma Deutscher will perform her first concerto for violin and orchestra composed at the age of 9 and her first piano concerto written when she was 12 years old.
