EVENT DESCRIPTION

The “Alan Chan: Collecting Inspiration for Design” exhibition will be held at Phillips Asia Headquarters located in the West Kowloon from August 12 to August 27, 2023. This exhibition is an extension of Alan Chan’s recent Rizzoli publication of the same title, and for the first time, it will showcase over 800 objects that Alan has collected over his illustrious 50-year career spanning advertising, graphic and spatial design, and visual art.

Alan has been a notable figure role in the Asian design world with an extensive, idiosyncratic body of work that flows across disciplines, through graphics and products to interiors and fine art, greatly inspired by his lifelong passion for collecting.

“It seems only yesterday that my odyssey began and, in reliving my life as a designer, collector, curator, and artist over the past five decades. I see my life as a book, a journey of creation and collection, of give and take across East and West.” – Alan Chan

In this 8,000 square foot space, the exhibition is divided into three themed chambers: “Joy of Collecting”, “Joy of Creating” and “Joy of Curating”, to present Alan’s rare personal insights into the influences and inspirations that have driven his creativity, and how he fuses collecting, creating and curating into everyday life.

For this exhibition, we are delighted to have Karena Lam, Gigi Leung, Wong Chi Chung, Tina Liu as our audio guides, leading visitors on a journey into Alan’s collecting, creating and curating journey.
