1 June 2024 - 30 June 2024

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The famous Lai Fong was one of the earliest Chinese photographers in Hong Kong, and his studio ‘Afong Photographer’, established in 1870, was the most successful photographic studio in Hong Kong before the Second World War.

Organized by Lumenvisum and curated by Dr. Edwin K. Lai, a renowned photography history scholar, the fifth exhibition of the series “History of Photographs, Photographs of History” is titled ‘Afong Photographer: Views of Hong Kong 1870s-1890s ─ From the Collection of Mr Siu Him Fung’.

This marks the first photography exhibition solely dedicated to the works of Afong’s photographs, which viewers can know about the photographer and his landscape photographs, as well as witness the evolving cityscape and harbor of Hong Kong in the late 19th century, including several pivotal historical events. This exhibition will open on 1 June 2024 till the end of the month, inviting the public to explore Hong Kong’s photography and its transformations through a historical lens.
