Adrian Wong: With Love from Hong Kong

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The exhibition With Love from Hong Kong marks a continuation of Adrian Wong’s exploration of pulp television and film. Drawing inspiration from soap operas and largely based on the personal narratives of his grandmother’s life experiences, these new works use exaggerated plots and touches of humour to create a series of videos which, through the set designs, he invites the audience into this retelling of his family’s stories.

At Oi!, Wong extends this cross-generational dialogue into the exhibition space, using scenography to co-create a soap opera that explores themes of love, cities and human connections with the community, and transforms Oi! into a vibrant stage for creative experimentation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Originally trained in research psychology, Adrian Wong began making and exhibiting his works in San Francisco while concurrently conducting research in developmental linguistics. He continued his post-graduate studies in sculpture. Wong has operated studios in Hong Kong, Berlin, Los Angeles and most recently Chicago, where he serves as an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
