EVENT DESCRIPTION
The same thing happens again and again, and the space-time we are in is like a vortex of infinite circulation. Things happen, from a sudden breeze blowing away the fallen leaves, to the fact that great battles between countries are constantly taking place in our lives. Although we have no way to know where things are going, we can choose to face anything with a relaxed and happy attitude. This time, 2CHOEY not only put his signature palm face and hand raising movement into the work, but also added some new elements to bring freshness to the audience. He put some familiar materials into the new series of works, such as Campbell soup, the Mona Lisa and some lovely cartoon characters, so as to add a sense of familiarity to the works, that the public can easily find that resonance in the works.
2CHOEY, a talented artist from Thailand, always have deep feelings on the current social changes, and his works are warmly pursued by fans all over the world. He is now holding his second solo exhibition “Same Thing Again and Again” in Hong Kong. He created a series of works that subvert traditional art, explore deep-seated social phenomena, and enable the public to reinterpret and think about popular culture under the communication beyond language.
Campbell’s soup, an evergreen food brand that existed in the 19th century, has been established for more than 150 years. The public are not new to this red and white iconic packaging. In the 1960s, Andy Warhol, a master of pop art, also used Campbell soup as his creative material, and his works also received great repercussions.
This time 2CHOEY paid tribute to Andy Warhol, the master of printmaking, in his own works. In addition to the element of Campbell soup, 2CHOEY is also very close to the pulse of the world, and the big and small things that are happening are also connected to his works. Including the recent news of wars and pandemic we experienced, 2CHOEY also sarcastically called on everyone to ‘cook soup, not war’ and ‘stock-up more art cans before the next pandemic’‘. In 2CHOEY’s new series of paintings, some works reflect the mood when buying art, such as’ Buy art to show off ‘. Some works reflect the artist’s heart, that is, someone suddenly says, ‘Love your work, could you draw me for free?’
