Brazilian Fantasy

25 June

$200 – $500

EVENT DESCRIPTION

On 25 June 2025 8:00pm, Ney Rosauro, the legendary Brazilian composer and percussionist, brings his Brazilian folklore to Hong Kong audiences in a special performance with City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK). He will appear as both guest conductor and soloist in an exhilarating concert of his compositions showcasing local percussion virtuosos.

Fiona Foo, praised by critics worldwide for her impeccable technique and sensational stage movements, performs Ney Rosauro’s Concerto No.1 for Marimba and Orchestra, known as the most popular marimba concerto of all time. HK Phil’s principal timpanist James Boznos and the award-winning Hong Kong marimba player Elise Liu will join forces for the Hong Kong premiere of Ney Rosauro’s Double Concerto for Marimba, Timpani and Orchestra. The percussion wizard himself will also make a solo appearance in a rendition of his Brazilian Suite for vibraphone with Brazilian percussion performed by Simon Williams. To compliment an evening of energizing rhythms, CCOHK will perform Heitor Villa-Lobos’ O Trenzinho do Caipira (The Little Train of the Countryman), a work that vividly depicts a train journey through the Brazilian countryside and Batuque by Fernández.

Ney Rosauro has performed as a soloist in more than 45 countries and as a guest conductor in Brazil, Ecuador and the USA. He was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2023 and is hailed as “one of the most important and prolific percussion composers of the past half-century.” His unique compositions utilize the rich elements of Brazilian folklore and are celebrated for their beautiful melodies, catchy rhythms and global appeal. In addition to his works for solo percussion and orchestra or symphonic band, he has written more than 150 solo compositions and method books for percussion.
