EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is excited to announce Collect Hong Kong, scheduled for March 2025. This initiative aims to showcase fresh talent in the local art scene and enhance Hong Kong’s cultural presence. Local artists and emerging stars are invited to submit their works for this premier opportunity to showcase their creativity. Through this expansive expo, HKAC hopes to foster connections among artists, attract both locals and tourists, and enrich the city’s cultural landscape.
Collect Hong Kong 2025 is a biennial event, with 363 local artists participating, and 627 art pieces submissions including paintings, ceramics, photography, sculptures, installations and mixed media. Collect Hong Kong 2025 is fully supported by the Hong Kong Arts School, Academy of Visual Arts – Hong Kong Baptist University, School of Creative Media – City University of Hong Kong, teachers, students and alumni of Hong Kong Design Institute, Members of Hong Kong Sculpture, Friends of Hong Kong Arts Centre and other invited organisations and galleries. The featured artworks at this large-scale art event represent a new artistic force, further solidifying Hong Kong as a vibrant hub for art and culture.
William Lim, a renowned collector, artist and architect, has created a new painting ‘Ovation’ for the upcoming Collect Hong Kong 2025. The inspiration for the artwork stems from his experiences in an oil painting class held at the HKAS, which laid the foundation for his oil painting skills. The artwork features the interior of the Louis Koo Cinema at the HKAC. The Hong Kong Arts Centre is depicted on the screen, surrounded by a bright halo that symbolizes its vital role in promoting contemporary art and facilitating cultural exchanges. The audience in the cinema is shown celebrating the centre’s remarkable contributions with heartfelt applause.
The painting also contains a hidden element, as William has included himself in the artwork, looking up at the HKAC, symbolizing the significance and memories it holds for him, while also expressing hopes for the development of art and culture. The halo on the screen not only represents the achievements of the arts centre but also celebrate the success of ‘Collect Hong Kong 2025’. Through this painting, William hopes to inspire audiences to pay attention to local art and keep supporting the HKAC.
