EVENT DESCRIPTION

Touch Ceramics is honoured to collaborate with the world-renowned sculptor Toru Kurokawa once again for his second solo exhibition in Hong Kong.

Traditional Japanese philosophy suggests that harmony could be achieved through human-nature coexistence. The sky has been a source of inspiration, a symbol of profound truth, and a door to express emotions. For over a decade, Kurokawa Toru has longed to express his emotions of dancing with nature through art, to evoke human beings’ desire to return to their roots in the quiet wilderness of the universe. He positions himself in the countryside, surrounded by plants and rocks, while immersing himself in the study of mathematics and physics. This rich living experience allows him to pick up the eternal and pure beauty in the mysterious natural world.

Toru has meticulously prepared 100 brand-new, exquisite sculptures for this exhibition. Together, let’s experience and witness the essence of his entire decade of art journey.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Kurokawa has been awarded, praised by collectors and scholars and celebrated with numerous exhibitions around the world throughout the years, including: Kusakabe Gallery, Kyoto (2021); Yingge Ceramic Museum, Taiwan (2020); GreenWise, Italy (2022); Mashiko Museum of Ceramic, Tochigi, Japan (2019) and more. His work has also been included in the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum, UK; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA; San Francisco Asian Art Museum, USA and more.

Toru Kurokawa's works are spiral hollow geometric shapes, with an obvious sense of mysterious existence. Not only is it engaging, it also inspires a spiritual connection with nature. Drawing inspiration from the organic and geometric shapes of natural objects such as rocks, trees and mountains, his work embodies the essence of the human spirit, giving them powerful qualities.
