EVENT DESCRIPTION

This edition of French May Cinema Programme (FMCP) features a must-see curation of 10 films themed “Cine-Art”. It is for all lovers of the arts in all their forms, from painting to gastronomy, literature, photography, theatre and music. For all to enjoy, FMCP offers screenings in Macau with the support of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, and Alliance Française de Macao.

In this carefully curated selection, you will find films that were nominated or rewarded at the Cannes Film Festival (Bonnard, Pierre and Marthe, The Taste of Things). The versatility of French cinema will enable you to discover Tehachapi, a poignant documentary about the street artist JR, as well as the fabulous adventures of Leonardo da Vinci (The Inventor), perfectly suited for children. Through the art of music, you will follow the story of Zahia Zouani through her biopic Divertimento. This incredible woman fought hard and succeeded in creating the Divertimento symphony orchestra will be in Hong Kong for the Symphony of New Worlds.

French May Cinema Programme will take place from May 22 to June 5 at PALACE ifc, MOViE MOViE Pacific Place and Broadway Cinematheque.

ABOUT THE ARTIST / ORGANISER

Established in 1953, Alliance Française de Hong Kong (Alliance Française) is a self-financing, non-profit-making association run by a committee formed by local personalities with a mission to foster French language and culture in the spirit of multicultural dialogue in Hong Kong. Since its establishment, Alliance Française has been dedicated to promotion of French culture by curating and organizing different cultural events with long-term supportive partners including Consulate of France in Hong Kong and Macao, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, UniFrance, Insitut Francais, local theatres, film distributors, sponsors and many others. The same year Alliance Française presented the first Hong Kong French film Festival in Hong Kong, the pioneering edition, making the film festival one of the longest standing film festival in the city.

In 1993, French May Arts Festival was founded, and soon it has become Hong Kong’s biggest cultural event and one of the most anticipated festival in town. Alliance Française has been supporting the festival by co-presenting numerous state of the art performances, concert, shows and exhibition throughout the years.
