EVENT DESCRIPTION
From 27-29 October 2023, Eaton HK will host the 2nd BEYOND Bollywood: AWAKE Indian Dance Festival – three days of dynamic programming aimed at bridging the gap between minority and majority communities in Hong Kong.
With the theme ‘Together Under ONE Roof’, BEYOND Bollywood aims to build a stronger presence for Indian dance in the city through building an artistic and cross-cultural exchange platform between international and local dance artists, showcasing and promoting cutting-edge and exciting contemporary choreography as well as deepening the appreciation of Indian dance and its cultural heritage in Hong Kong.
BEYOND Bollywood, a non-profit organisation, aims to use Indian dance as a vehicle to create cross-sector and cross-cultural collaborations to advance the concepts of cultural diversity, equality, respect and community inclusion. Free activations include a student-focused dance matinee on opening day, where secondary schoolers will be inspired to engage with movement and visual storytelling while connecting with diverse perspectives and cultures, roaming regional Indian dance sets and film screening of locally-produced and socially-inclusive short films.
Bollywood Dance Workshop
A family-friendly and fun-filled Indian Folk Painting Workshop brings together kids and parents to learn a new craft. The hands-on exploration aims to drive a deeper understanding of the rich diversity of Indian culture while facilitating participants’ creativity.

Those interested in connecting with the mat will enjoy a choice of two yoga activities on Sunday 29th October: Yoga Balance is a safe and simple practice for beginners, while Detox focuses on giving your digestive system a rest while boosting your immune system to create greater balance and improved immunity.

Looking to raise that heart rate? Diwali Dance Workshop will host a Banghra class on Saturday 28th, and a Garba class on the 29th. Beginners can enjoy the light-hearted Bollywood Dance Workshop on Friday 27th, and will leave with the skills to complete a dynamic dance routine.
“The aim of this festival is to not only bridge the gap between Indian and Chinese cultures, but to go beyond gestural cultural exchanges to foster deeper understanding through activities and interactions” – Benis Cheng, Co-founder of BEYOND Bollywood and Program Director of BEYOND Bollywood Festival.
