SUMMARY:WestK Cabaret Festival: Jim Hui x Ng Yui-man – Lie-down Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Jim Hui and Ng Yui-man once imagined themselves conquering the performing arts world side by side. That plan lasted about two weeks. Realising they worked better than together\, the two went their separate ways\, carving out their own paths – sometimes brilliantly\, sometimes chaotically. \nFour years later\, they run into each other again. One thing leads to another\, and soon they’re back on stage – partly to catch up\, partly to compare notes on how life has turned out. \nIn this candid and quick-witted performance\, Ng brings live singing and guitar while Hui counters with sharp storytelling. Between songs and punchlines\, the pair trade barbs\, swap life updates and revisit the choices that set them on different tracks – from creative obsessions and career highs to marriage\, fatherhood and everything in between. \nBy turns mischievous\, reflective and disarmingly honest\, Lie-down Comedy is a reunion of two old collaborators who discover that even when life takes you in very different directions\, there’s still plenty to laugh about when you meet again. \nCreator and Performer: Jim Hui\, Ng Yui-man \nDate and Time \n6 June 2026 (Saturday) 7:45pm\n7 June 2026 (Sunday) 3pm \nDuration: Approximately 1 hour without intermission

SUMMARY:WestK Cabaret Festival: HisPanic – Copla: A Spanish Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:Alejandro Postigo’s award-winning Copla: A Spanish Cabaret is a poignant\, intercultural reimagining of the heritage art of copla – the dramatic\, heartfelt music that defined Spain’s early musicals and gave voice to marginalised experiences. \nThrough a seductive\, celebratory blend of songs in Spanish and English\, intimate personal storytelling\, archival video projections and live accompaniment on piano and violin\, Postigo weaves a tale of childhood memories\, belonging\, and the struggles of a queer migrant life. \nPart musical performance\, part confession\, the show traces Postigo’s journey from Spain to England\, and his path to reinterpreting copla traditions in his own voice. Drawing us in with movie clips of iconic divas and touching reminiscences with his centenarian grandmother\, Postigo mixes crowd work\, melodrama\, humour and emotional honesty to deliver a cabaret that swings between camp spectacle and tender confession – opening hearts and reclaiming foreignness through music. \nDate and Time\n2–3 June 2026 (Tuesday and Wednesday) 7:45pm\nDuration: 1 hour and 10 minutes without intermission\nEnglish dialogues with limited Spanish; English\, French and Spanish songs; all with Chinese and English surtitles.

SUMMARY:Magic Tea House 2.0 — Dreams of the Future
DESCRIPTION:From June 2023\, the new season of the Tea House Theatre’s regular original programme offers a new look at Cantonese opera and traditional Chinese music through an innovative framed story presentation. \nThe 90-minute performance follows the thoughts of a Cantonese opera actor\, who travels through time and reimagines the future of his craft in a fast-changing\, digitised world. DESCRIPTION:Programme\nHE Zhanhao & CHEN Gang (arr. Johnny TSIN) | Butterfly Lovers‘ Violin Concerto for String Quartet\nGE Gan-ru | Angel Suite for String Quartet\nRAVEL | String Quartet in F\nComposers often found inspiration as they travelled around the world. Chinese American composer Ge Gen-Ru went to New York in his 30s and encountered Christianity\, which greatly influenced him and resulted in the composition of his Angel Suite\, a work expertly employs a wide range of styles to convey themes of spirituality through music. \nFrench composer Maurice Ravel visited the Great Paris Exhibition in 1889 – an eye-opening event for this young man of 14 – at which he was first exposed to oriental musical styles. The unique sound of his String Quartet is a kaleidoscope of impressionist flair\, neoclassicism\, and his affection for Mozart. The Quartet also has unusual tonal effects\, demonstrating his expanded musical vocabulary and hinting at his appreciation for Eastern music. \nThe concert runs for 1 hour without intermission. \n  \nArtists\nAnders Hui\, violin\nChi Li\, violin\nJiali Li\, viola\nTae-mi Song\, cello \nTicketing details to be announced \nCo-presented by\nWest Kowloon Cultural District \n

SUMMARY:Magic Tea House
DESCRIPTION:‘Magic Tea House” is an original family-friendly show at the Xiqu Centre’s Tea House Theatre. The story of this new regular programme follows a young musician who grew up abroad and returns to Hong Kong. When sorting through various stage props left behind by her great-grandfather\, the musician begins a magical encounter with the spirits of her ancestor who inspire her to appreciate Xiqu\, Chinese music and traditional culture and values. \nCombining live performance and recordings\, the programme transforms the Tea House Theatre with arts tech. It’s also the first live Cantonese opera performance in Hong Kong to feature an AI-controlled robot. Don’t miss this brand-new innovative introduction to Cantonese instrumental music and southern Chinese xiqu! \nPatrons will get a complimentary drink from “Daily Tea Time by Don’t Yell at Me” or “LockCha Tea Shop” after the show. \n*Performed in Cantonese with Chinese and English surtitles \nWeekly performances run from Friday to Sunday
