SUMMARY:ArtisTree Selects: The Jewel System by Sara Shakeel
DESCRIPTION:Swire Properties’ Arts Month 2025 returns with its month- long festivities dedicated to celebrating art. This year\, ArtisTree is pleased to partner with Sara Shakeel\, a globally celebrated multidisciplinary artist\, to present ArtisTree Selects: The Jewel System. Visitors are invited to a celestial dialogue of two transformative art installations located at ArtisTree and Two Taikoo Place from 22 March to 27 April 2025. \nFrom Digital to Tangible: A Fusion of Technology and Tradition \nSara Shakeel\, widely recognised for her mesmerising digital art\, pioneers a new frontier by translating her virtual concepts into a physical exhibition. The London-based artist wields glass crystals to establish a visual language encoded with her rich South Asian heritage and personal memories\, weaving narratives that strike a chord with her vast online following. ArtisTree showcases the artist’s imaginative artwork out of the digital space\, harbouring the healing and transformative qualities of the pieces while marking Shakeel’s debut in Hong Kong through a tangible and novel experience. \nShakeel’s vibrant creativity amounts to a human attempt to touch the stars — an embroidered map of existence. Expanding upon the blend of heritage and innovation that is signature to her practice\, Shakeel fuels a conversation about innovation\, culture\, and connectivity in shared humanity\, merging traditional craftmanship with a unique contemporary touch to forge a dialogue between the past and the ever-evolving present. Made in collaboration with her team of 80 artisans in Pakistan who\, applying age-old techniques\, have used ethically sourced over 3.9 million pieces of coloured crystals onto the surface of each planet\, combining textiles\, crystals\, and symbolism tied to diverse cultural mythologies. \nOnce reserved for the most opulent gowns of the royals\, the intricacy of metallic embroidery craftsmanship is demonstrated in layers of exquisite detail. The needlework is meticulously crafted\, with threads arranged with precision and every stitch contributing to a rich depth and texture. By uniting these celestial narratives\, Shakeel celebrates humanity’s common desire to understand the universe. Embroidery\, a practice steeped in patience and precision\, mirrors the methodical forces of nature that shaped our cosmos. \nTranscending borders and beliefs\, the two artworks titled The Jewel System and Genesis in Jewels stand as testament to Shakeel’s core values. They serve as potent reminders of our celestial heritage and cosmic home\, while also embodying a commitment to respecting the nature\, celebrating harmony and fostering solidarity\, underscoring the profound impact even the smallest of us can have on the universe. \nIn partnership with leading Swiss wealth management group Julius Baer and design boom to curate this world-class exhibition\, Taikoo Place is transforming into a vibrant and cultural destination where art\, community\, and business seamlessly converge\, creating a dynamic and human-centric commercial hub that celebrates creativity\, connection and collaboration. \nArtwork Highlights \nThe Jewel System inside ArtisTree unveils a mesmerising\, embroidered map of planetary forms\, featuring vibrant solar system planets meticulously hand-embroidered with cultural jewels in Pakistan. The planet are celestial bodies intricately adorned with crystals\, metallic work\, glittering threads and sequences\, merging global mythologies and folklore into unique narratives that resonate with universal symbolism. Treated as precious gems\, each planet is crafted using traditional South Asian textile techniques\, blending artistry with precision. Beyond its visual allure\, the installation prompts contemplation on humanity’s potential amidst life’s fleeting nature and the efforts to upkeep the sanctity of space. \nGenesis in Jewels captures the primordial moment of the Big Bang through multiple layers of cloth\, representing different cosmic epochs from chaos to the birth of galaxies. A sweeping black net cloth embellished with myriad embroidered galaxies and suspended crystals envisions the hallway as a celestial portal guiding viewers through the act of creation. Each layer of fabric\, some shimmering and others matte\, is meticulously adorned with crystals\, signifying the progression from disorder to cosmic harmony. Shakeel translates a profound scientific concept into a personal and tangible emotional experience\, seamlessly blending the vast expanse of space with the intimacy of human creativity. The installation emphasises the transformative power of a single idea\, illustrating how even the smallest spark can evolve into boundless realms of possibility.

SUMMARY:PROJECT AFTER 6: Mou Man Tai
DESCRIPTION:When you think of Hong Kong\, what comes to mind after skyscrapers\, dim sum and the harbour? “Mou5 man6 tai4” is a colloquial Cantonese term that translates as “sure\, no problem!” – a popular phrase that encapsulates the can-do spirit hardwired into Hongkongers which helps to make the city such an inspiring place to be. \nThis intangible quality is being brought to the stage in Taikoo Place’s latest musical production in collaboration with the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (HKYAF). Presented in English\, “PROJECT AFTER 6: Mou Man Tai” will be staged from 16th to 24th June 2023 at ArtisTree – the unique venue for visual and performing arts in the heart of Taikoo Place. \n“PROJECT AFTER 6: Mou Man Tai” is a concept musical built around the minutiae of everyday Hong Kong life that showcases the love-hate sentiment Hongkongers feel towards their city. The musical is filled with humorous personalities and their sometimes- complex relationships\, including the ambiguous chemistry between “madams” and their domestic helpers\, the overly idolised “super tutors” whose images appear on the back of the city’s buses\, and many more. \nThe all-new show is written and directed by Lindsey McAlister\, founder of the HKYAF and the creative mastermind behind its successful predecessor\, “PROJECT AFTER 6: Cube Culture”\, a musical about local office culture staged in 2018. Mou Man Tai features 33 executives from in and around Taikoo Place who have been carefully handpicked through an open call with over 500 applicants in December 2021. Coming from different business sectors\, the cast will bring their diverse cultural backgrounds\, life experiences and passion for acting onto the stage this June. \nThe latest musical features 14 original songs penned by the highly sought-after Nick Harvey\, a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning composer\, as well as the “East meets West” stage setting and costumes designed by Marsha Roddy\, who drew inspiration from uniquely Hong Kong elements such as iconic chinoiserie porcelain patterns and other details that will be sure to surprise the audiences. \nPROJECT AFTER 6 is a pioneer tenant engagement programme launched by Swire Properties in 2014 with the aim of creating a platform to facilitate the Taikoo Place office community’s pursuit of a better work-life balance and redefine what a sustainable commercial complex should look like. From live busking and a capella performance to musical theatre masterclasses\, the programme has been tapping into different art forms over the past nine years to encourage working professionals to explore their passion outside of the workplace. The programme has engaged more than 1\,300 talented office workers in Taikoo Place since its launch. \nThis year’s “Mou Man Tai” musical provides a rare opportunity for working professionals to experience the thrill of participating in the performing arts. It will take them on a journey from understanding the fundamentals of theatre performance\, receiving weekly vocal lessons\, learning challenging routines that combine singing\, dancing\, and acting to finally unleashing their hidden talent on a professional stage. In developing such an extensive art programme\, Swire Properties hopes to inspire and empower other forward-thinking companies to support the cultivation of the arts and their employees’ well-being.

SUMMARY:ArtisTree Selects: Urban Rocks
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the annual Swire Properties Arts Month\, ArtisTree is pleased to unveil ArtisTree Selects: Urban Rocks\, a contemporary art exhibition featuring brand new sculptural works by Hong Kong-based French artist Polo Bourieau (b. 1968\, Nantes\, France) running from 16 March to 9 April 2023. \nCurated by Hong Kong-based curator Alison Pickett\, ArtisTree Selects: Urban Rocks is Polo Bourieau’s largest solo exhibition to date\, debuting a collection of 12 new stone sculptures made in the intimacy of his Tuscan workshop in Pietrasanta\, Italy\, in 2021. His creations are inspired by Chinese scholars’ rocks and the way they were shaped and formed by the forces of nature. Throughout the formation process over millennia\, these abundances of rocks witnessed the most furious\, ragging\, and cataclysmic conditions that the planet can offer. Profiling a metaphor for humanity’s indelible mark on the planet\, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the meaning of human existence\, the impact we make on the modern world\, and the fears in the age of Anthropocene. \nArtisTree Selects: Urban Rocks is also part of Swire Properties’ Placemaking approach to progressively advocate Taikoo Place as an inspiring\, sustainable and enjoyable workplace\, both vital to the health of communities and our society. ArtisTree Selects is a series of specially commissioned and curated programmes at Taikoo Place’s multipurpose space ArtisTree\, introducing original and thought-provoking arts and culture exhibitions and performances that are easily accessible by the public. \nPolo is also influenced by Italo Calvino’s 1972 novel Le città invisibili (Invisible Cities)\, and presents his collection of sculptures exquisitely for the ArtisTree Selects programme as ‘worlds of dreams\, architectures and landscapes\, spaces of memories and maps of desires’. Every piece in the collection was carved from a single piece of stone sourced internationally – France\, Italy\, Spain\, Iran and the Kurdistan region. He designed\, shaped\, hand-carved and hand-polished the sculptures himself using cutting edge technologies\, each narrating a fictitious story of its own in twelve different manners. His creative process also poetically portraits the contrast of using tools of the present to change the face of the materials created from the past. \nAs an object for meditation\, scholars’ rocks were believed to be imbued with primordial energies capable of dynamic transformations\, offering imaginary journeys to mystical peaks and cave paradises. ArtisTree Selects: Urban Rocks transcends a powerful imaginary travel in its unique way; a parallel contemporary world that comprises stones created and transformed by the hands of a man\, rather than nature on this occasion. \nIn the exhibition\, the sculptures are placed in a circular display – a shape with no beginning or ending\, adding a sense of mystery and serenity to the installation. It invites visitors to contemplate through exploring the dialogue between the earthly element and man-made art. It is a powerful experience traversing the dimension between fantasy and reality\, and to ponder the footprint we as human creates to places where we call home.

In a carefully curated pathway\, it invites audiences to embark a poetic sensory journey and through it\, Wong hopes to evoke the concept of reliving memories\, revitalise the act of ‘sharing’\, and contemplate lost feelings in our everyday lives. \n“The Singing Canvases” exhibition is the continual chapter of Wong’s “The Missing Something” series\, where she continues to share her personal feelings in forms of arts by drawing inspirations from reencountering the forgotten pieces from our memory lane and embracing values of wellness in our urban-living lives. Make a booking now. \nDue to social distancing measures\, number of admissions per day will be limited. Each visitor is allowed to book up to 2 tickets.
