SUMMARY:Left Unsaid
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning actress Cecilia Yip and veteran actor Kenny Wong are partnering for the first time in Left Unsaid which will be staged in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 14-17 November. Adapted and directed by Mathias Woo\, Co-artistic Director of Zuni Icosahedron\, Left Unsaid\, a Cantonese dark drama\, first use 5.5G wireless network that enables greater bandwidth and faster data to expand the possibilities of theatre and offer audience a brand-new experience. Tickets now are available for purchase on Zuni Ticketing Platform and Urbtix. \nYip shared this new theatre work would be a breakthrough for her\, “the story of Left Unsaid is one-of-a-kind\, as it keeps me thinking. Each reading and rehearsal sparks new ideas. This is not merely about acting a role; this drama will surely help me uncover the unimaginable.” Her role as a neurologist\, married to a neurosurgeon played by Wong\, must have left a strong impression on her\, giving her inspiration. She continued\, “playing multiple identities in my role has given me plenty of room for development. The plot unfolds several love triangles\, and each is interwoven. That has made the story unique.” Wong added\, “the title itself – Left Unsaid – is intriguing. What can be said in real life; what remains unsaid; what are the consequences for having said it? All these have set me thinking. It tell stories  in manifolds – with elements of sentimentality\, absurdity and the other-worldly.”  Woo\,  who directs\, adapts and leads the stage & multimedia design\, described it as “suspenseful\, absurd\, and ambivalent.” With the support of Hutchison Global Communications\, the team is bringing the city’s first 5.5G application into a local theatre. It will aim to provide the audience with seamless connectivity\, almost 10 times faster than 5G\, enabling camera feeds processed in real-time and hence an ever-more intimate connection between performers and audience. \nThis production has kicked off with a star-studded lineup of artists and producers. Left Unsaid is originally written by Nick Yu\, a National Class One playwright and the director of Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre. To put together the performance in Hong Kong\, Woo teams up with Yee Chung Man\, who has won several Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Art Direction and Costume Design and received an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design\, for art direction & styling; the acclaimed producer and manager Joseph Chan as the producer. Among the others\, there are the founding member of Zuni Icosahedron\, David Yeung\, and the world champion harmonicist Gordon Lee in the cast. \nThe story of Left Unsaid begins with a neurosurgeon and his neurologist wife\, with their marriage on the verge of a breakdown. The couple converse every moment of the day but cannot communicate with each other. Their son\, caught between them\, seems to exist only in their frequented rows.  One day\, the visit of an old school friend reveals an unspeakable secret in the family\, uncovering one lie after another. In a life beyond words\, is silence the best way to hold everyone together? If things are left unsaid\, as life continues\, is it possible to sustain life with fabrications while leaving the facts and the truth behind? \n2024.11.14-16 (Thu-Sat) 8:15pm \n2024.11.17 (Sun) 3pm

SUMMARY:The Birth of Tragedy
DESCRIPTION:A theatrical work probing into the relationship between Nietzsche and Wagner\, which was like a love affair between philosophy and art. Their relationship will be deconstructed by disengaging viewpoints from the subject\, and immersing in actions evolving from a multitude of interchangeable\, mutually understood concepts. What was born out of the death of faith? \nFollowing his 5-year explorative series of the Interrupted Dream\, The Birth of Tragedy is Yung’s new work using the theme of TRAGEDY to reconstruct theatre experimentation on relationship and art. From the German philosopher who was profoundly influential to the development of 20th century philosophy\, to the context of contemporary audiences; from the Wagner operas Nietzsche once so fondly embraced and later contemptuously reviled\, to noise music that tries to reestablish the boundaries of music\, Yung continues with his ultra-minimalist theatre design of One Table Two Chairs\, creating a platform for dialogues across consciousness\, generations\, cultures.

SUMMARY:KJ Wong: The Five Elements Piano Recital
DESCRIPTION:The concept of the Five Elements was used by ancient Chinese philosophers to describe the formation and relationships of all things in the world. The Five Elements are Metal\, Wood\, Water\, Fire\, and Earth. Singly or in combination\, they are the five major constituents of all things. The ancients related the Five Elements to different things in the world such as the Five Constant Virtues and Five Body Organs\, which are unique Chinese cultural characteristics. Music also has its corresponding Five Notes. Traditional Chinese music uses a pentatonic scale\, consisting of Gong\, Shang\, Jue\, Zhi\, and Yu\, similar to the Western music notes Do\, Re\, Mi\, So\, La. Each note was imbued by the ancients with the attributes of one of the Five Elements: Metal (Shang)\, Wood (Jue)\, Water (Yu)\, Fire (Zhi)\, and Earth (Gong). \nFor the Five Elements recital\, the selection of music pieces is based on the concept of the interaction between the Five Elements generating and controlling one another\, as in Earth generates Metal\, Metal generates Water\, Water generates Wood\, and Wood generates Fire. Pianist KJ Wong selects not only pieces of Western classical music\, in which he excels\, but also traditional Chinese music and modern music. When selecting the pieces\, KJ emphasizes on the “feeling”\, especially feeling his connection with the Five Elements and all things on Earth. Through this solo concert\, the audience will experience the beautiful fusion of Chinese and Western cultures\, and feel the charm of the Five Elements and Five Notes. \nRepertoire\n“Earth”\nSonata in B minor\, K.87 – Scarlatti\nSonata in E major\, K. 135 – Scarlatti\nPrelude and Fugue in E major\, BWV 878 – Bach \n“Metal”\n12 Notations – Boulez\n“Water”\nAqua – Ryuichi Sakamoto\nReflets dans l’eau (Reflections in the Water) – Debussy \n“Wood”\nBāng Chhun-hong (Pining for the Spring Breeze) – Teng Yu-hsien\, arr. by Stephen Hough\nThe Butterfly Lovers – He Zhanhao\, Chen Gang \n“Fire”\nVers la Flamme (Toward the flame)\, Op. 72 – Scriabin\nBallade No. 2 in B minor\, S.171 – Liszt

With the help of Immortal Temperance\, can they expel the mutant virus that makes people gluttonous\, lazy\, angry\, and jealous\, and restore the seven virtues to the world? \nIt is a tale that celebrates tradition and innovation\, truth\, and fairy tale\, arts\, and education. Younger audience is invited to reflect upon what truly matters in the face of adversity. This music theatre experience will not only bring moving music and laughter to families\, but also show kids how vital it is to exercise virtues in trying times. \n6 August (Sat) 2:30pm\, 5pm;\n7 August (Sun) 11:30am\, 2:30pm\, 5pm
