SUMMARY:2025 Para Site Benefit Auction
DESCRIPTION:Para Site is proud to announce its 2025 Benefit Auction\, its marquee annual fundraising event dedicated to sustaining and expanding its critical work within the local and international art ecosystems. The Benefit Auction\, which comprises live and silent formats\, will take place during the Gala evening on Thursday\, 20 November 2025\, at the St. Regis Hong Kong. \nOver 70 works by leading artists have been generously donated by local and international contemporary artists and galleries\, in support of the organisation’s mission to champion original developments in contemporary art. Highlights include works by: Feng Guodong\, Shinro Ohtake\, Mire Lee\, Ser Serpas\, Tia-Thuy Nguyen\, and Wang Tuo\, amongst others. All works can be viewed at the Preview Exhibition taking place from 13–16 November\, from 12–8pm\, at 9F\, H Queen’s\, Hong Kong. \nReflecting Para Site’s deep entrenchment within its community and regional ecosystems\, network\, and curatorial vision\, the artists of this year’s Benefit Auction represent a dynamic dialogue between established\, celebrated artists and emerging\, visionary voices. Several of the works have also been donated by artists who have previously exhibited at Para Site\, including artists Shuyi Cao\, Maria Taniguchi\, and Heman Chong. Visitors to the Benefit Auction Preview Exhibition will gain the opportunity to learn about new and emerging names in the region\, many of whom will hold upcoming institutional presentations in the following year. \nAll proceeds raised from the evening will go towards the longstanding contemporary arts organisation’s efforts for the following year and beyond. Since its founding in 1996 by seven Hong Kong-based artists as an alternative space\, Para Site has mounted over 300 exhibitions locally and globally\, hosted over 87 international residents\, and delivered over 1\,000 public programmes. \nAs an independent nonprofit\, Para Site relies on private donations to ensure its continuity\, to keep Para Site’s exhibitions and programming free and accessible for all\, and to facilitate international connections between Hong Kong\, Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world through its exhibitions and residencies. \nAccess the Para Site Benefit Auction platform HERE.

SUMMARY:Pratchaya Phinthong: Empty Set
DESCRIPTION:Para Site is thrilled to present Empty Set\, a solo exhibition by Pratchaya Phinthong\, curated by Billy Tang. \nPhinthong’s first institutional solo exhibition in Hong Kong\, Empty Set serves as both an intervention and a stage—bringing together cultural workers\, scientists and cross-disciplinary collaborators to pose questions\, share critical reflections and explore futures shaped by the climate emergency. The exhibition acts as a catalyst for a larger project that will unfold throughout fall 2025 in and around Para Site’s space through site interventions\, a symposium\, a film programme and performances. \nThe exhibition uses the empty set (∅) as a guiding concept and a conceptual placeholder for ideas and discussions outside of rigid knowledge structures. Empty Set creates a place for new possibilities\, a literal opening of the exhibition space to the outside world. Walls\, windows and other thresholds become elements of an experiential montage\, edited into interventions that dissolve the fourth wall of the gallery and expose it to realities beyond.

SUMMARY:Minding the G(r)a(s)p
DESCRIPTION:Para Site is delighted to present the group exhibition titled Minding the G®a(s)p\, featuring recent works and new commissions by C&G Artpartment\, Eastman Cheng\, Chow Chun Fai\, Jaffa Lam\, Lau Hok Shing\, Lulu Ngie\, and Wong Wai Yin. \nThe English title of the exhibition Minding the G®a(s)p is a triple entendre—gap\, gasp\, grasp. It is a way to draw attention to the space between seeing and knowing in the exhibition viewing experience and it might be greater than the audience might first realise. The gasp is the surprise when the audience discovers new narratives or ideas when they are able to look beyond preconceived notions related to the seven mid-career artists/artist collectives on view in the exhibition. The exhibition’s curator Celia Ho proposes to the audience to approach each work individually\, in order to grasp the significance and context behind each one of them. \nThe exhibition is an invitation to the audience to engage through a collective experiment that circumnavigates the interpretative lens of the curator. Instead\, the audience is encouraged to consider their individual agency as they encounter the stories of each individual artwork. ‘Minding the G(r)a(s)p’ questions the active versus passive roles of audience\, artist\, and curator—and seeks to reconfigure the power dynamics between these participants. \nInstead of trying to satisfy a particular curatorial thesis\, the exhibition originated from the curator’s in-depth conversations with the artists. The works included in the exhibition are imbued with personal significance for the artists. Some are previously unrealised\, others have never been widely exhibited. Yet still are experiments—improvisations in the here and now. The exhibition aims to allow artistic freedom for the participating artists to realise the works that they most urgently want to create at this particular moment of uncertainty. \nThe exhibition is open by appointment only.
